I need some advice because this is a first for me . Perhaps someone else can shed some light on it . Okay , here is what happened .
A buyer purchased a very inexpensive pair of earrings from me about a week ago . Along with her purchase she sent a message telling me that the earrings were for an elderly lady who is always losing the backs to her earrings so she asked if I could include some extras. So , I did and I shipped the earrings with a tracking number the next day .
About three days ago I was contacted by the buyer saying she couldn't find the earrings on her purchase history . The only thing I could think to do was copy and paste the transaction details along with the USPS tracking number and send it to her . Today she contacted me again saying the earrings were due to be delivered today[ in which they were] , but to an address in Florida . She says she doesn't live in Florida but here in California in a nursing home . I have doubled and tripled checked the address on her Pay Pal file and is without a doubt the same exact address in Florida I shipped the earrings to. I sent a message through '' contact the buyer '' today just to see if someone else would respond with an explanation . The person who purchased the earrings was indeed buying them for an elderly woman so this whole thing is a puzzle .. Tulips

It's very odd they say they can't find it in their purchase history. Maybe they used another ID? One that had the Florida address attached for some reason. pink fish rule
She says she's never lived in Florida . What's so really strange is the very first message I received from the buyer is when she made the purchase . She said she was buying them FOR an elderly lady who was always losing the backs to her earrings . The person I've been messaging back and forth with is an elderly lady who lives in a rest home who purchased the earrings for herself. She lives in CA. while the buyer who paid for the earrings lives in Florida . Tulips

I'd be loyal to the person who paid me. That would be your buyer in Florida. The other person I might start ignoring.

Knowing where the buyer resides that was also my first thought . Tulips
I guess I missed the answer to that question.
Does the "valley girl"person who states that they live in a CA rest home the same ID as the buyer in Florida?

Never mind! I just saw the answer;
"The lady / buyer who has been contacting me saying she doesn't live in Florida has the exact same name / ID as the buyer I shipped the earrings to ."

Yes ,, the very same user name and I.D . It's if as though the buyer who lives in Florida had actually purchased the earrings for the lady who says she is the buyer who lives in CA . There's some simulier aspects to each side . Very very peculiar . Tulips

However I think I'm leaning towards believing the buyer in CA . is just confused . It's hard to imagine a scam attempt over such a small transaction of 7.50 with free shipping . Tulips

Yes ,, that was the first thing I did is double check the address on file . There's no mistake in whom ever purchased the earrings lives in Florida . The lady / buyer who has been contacting me saying she doesn't live in Florida has the exact same name / ID as the buyer I shipped the earrings to . However at the very bottom of her page it says she is a valley girl from southern Ca . . This sounds like a younger person and not an older lady who lives in a rest home . I'm really at a loss here . Have you called Ebay. They could verify if there is something not quite right here. Boy you sure came up with a good one. I too haven't heard of this happening before. If her account had been hijacked, she wouldn't have it back so quickly.

How do you know they aren't one and the same if the ID is the same? Just askin?

I don't. Something's fishy. The buyer in CA should know the FLA address. Why doesn't she? It's on her account supposedly.

It is up to her to forward it to someone else. You are only covered on the transaction if you ship to the "ship to" address. Sometimes folks try to get something here for free, or at a reduced price. You never know.
You do have a choice. You can be proactive and refund the "buyer" in full or you can wait to she if the buyer files a INR claim (where you must respond to eBay with the tracking number), and possibly get some undeserved feedback.
If the buyer opens an Item Not Received and tulips responds with the tracking showing proof of delivery and the case closes in her favor, the buyer won't be able to leave feedback.

But wasn't it the buyer in Ca who claimed it wasn't showing on her purchase history?
I guess. I don't know. We can't see the account(s). Maybe she moved from Fla to CA, and mistakenly used her old ID? Who knows!
I would double check to make sure the IDs are absolutely perfectly matched. Then I would ask the buyer why was a Florida address on her account as the mailing address? Let the buyer figure it out, or at least contribute to solving the mystery.

Was this a message sent with the payment? Or did you receive it in an eBay message?
If you received it in an eBay message, you could REPLY to it (you can reply more than once to the same eBay message) and remind her that she sent you this note.
If you received it in the message section of the payment, you could send her a copy of the contents of the message.

Another speculative thought...maybe she sent something to that address in Florida as a gift sometime back, forgot to change the mail to address to her CA address, and wants to make it the seller's problem so that she doesn't have to track down the package and get it mailed to her CA address. Only the buyer knows...

Yes , I just got off the phone with them . I explained the situation . The rep advised me that as the seller this address thing is out of my control . She said that I had done what I was supposed to do by shipping to the address on file . She said the buyer will need to call them herself to get any further help to try and straighten it out . So I sent the buyer one last message with the phone number for her to call .. that's it I guess .. Tulips
