My product reviews show up in a competitor's listing for a similar product

I have a branded product we make in house, with own UPC which is included in listing.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Yamaha-SRX700-SRX600-air-filter-element-fast-shipping-8DF-14451-00-00/14253...

Just noted that a competitor's parts (their own manufacture) has same good recommendations on their listing. Competitor part does not include UPC information, that I can see, so not sure why these parts are conflated.

Why is this happening?

It happens because ebay wants it to happen. The listings are given shared product reviews based on UPC and or other product identifiers.

So the two listings have the same model number and same part number.

It used to be one could opt out  but not anymore.

As to why they appear or not appear- it seems random?

Its confusing for Some of us buyers too. When I first started buying here, I was giving product reviews thinking I was giving seller feedback. Oops. Once I realized it, I stopped.

Both parts link back to an OEM part number substitution. One would think the UPCs would be used to differentiate, but apparently the system's not that sophisticated.

Their product is just as likely to end up on the bottom of your listings, if the 'bots and AI decide that they are similar or complementary, due to product identifiers and such.

Many people have complained of this and commenting that it might be a reason for more returns - seeing a like item, priced lower, after buying an item, being listed at the bottom of the original page.

Perhaps if Brains were described as an APP, many people would use them more often.
