My first "Can you get it here by Christmas?" question.

Dear Diary:

I got my first "Can you get it here by Xmas" question.  Later than usual, I guess people have more faith in the USPS than last year.

The balance of the message was, "I gotta have it by Christmas.  Whatever you need to do to get it here by then is what you need to do.  Do you take offers?  I will order this afternoon when I get off work, but if you want to start packing it ..."

The buyer then went on to describe how it should be wrapped & packed.

This is a $10 part with about $3 margin in it.

I messaged back, "Sure, I can have it there by Christmas Eve ... I'm right on it."

Then I put him on the "banned" list.

Or, as I call it, "Santa's Naughty List."

"Do you take offers?"   LoL   *snort*  ROF

.

I block them immediately. And I don't email back.

I make no promises when item arrives in 365 days of a year.

Yours is a funny story telling you to start packing it and how to pack it even before payment is received.

Yea, throw in a couple of candy canes in the box too while you're at it.

My first "Can you get it here by Christmas?" question.

With USPS it's more like can you get it there at all.

Just advise there is no way you can know that.  Shipping this time of year often faces delays from weather and high demand.

I haven't gotten one of those messages in years. A benefit, I suspect, of my 5 day handling time.

I'm sure I am tempting fate by saying this, but up to today I have seen no additional delays beyond the usual shipping times, either for bad weather or holiday demand. That's for two selling accounts, one mine and one belonging to a newbie seller that I'm mentoring (which is mostly Media Mail). I expect things to bog down soon, but so far they have not.

My first "Can you get it here by Christmas?" question.

"Dear Clueless Buyer":  Lucky for you, I have a process set up to handle requests like yours.  A teenaged relative just lounges around my family room , playing on his phone and denudng my pantry of snacks, poised for situations like this.  You will need to pay me the amount of chartering a plane from my location to yours (round trip unless you want to keep him).  Am wrapping your package as we speak per your directions.  He's nearly out the door with it.  Just another example of my great service for buyers in your category."

I get the expedited request quite often.
My response is always:

Sorry, can't expedite due to eBay policies

Can I save this for future use? 🤣

Ugh. Nothing irritates me more than someone telling me how to pack an item and when to ship it.

I think the USPS cut off date for delivery by Christmas was the 11th this year. How optimistic!

In the last few days, I've spent at least $1000 buying gifts here on eBay.
And passed up quite a few sellers due to handling times.

That's two of my biggest pet peeves on eBay rolled into one.   Saying they must have it by ___ date.    (I get those too)   And telling me how to pack.   ( I spend way too long packing each item as it is).   And then for good measure, do you take offers?   Yikes.  The entitlement with this one is incredible.   I also would have added them to my 'special list'  as fast as I can.   And not answer back.

Your sharing this warms my heart. I love it when a plan comes together.
