On May 7th, I sold an item on eBay that I had previously sold the day before on Poshmark. I immediately cancelled the order and refunded the money. I knew I would get a defect but I accepted that. Up until then, I had no defects and 1 late shipment and 100% feedback.
Over the weekend, I noticed that the buyer left negative feedback. OK, I'll suck it up and move on.
Then I noticed that I now have two late shipments because the buyer states that the package arrived late. Really? Serously? Three negatives for one mistake. Customer service says that they cannot do anything about this.
My store renews in October. I'm pretty sure that I might just downgrade it to a starter store month by month. I'm already not getting any benefits for being a TRS because I won't do free returns (I tried it and after two weeks I got two returns and decided that this was not for me).
After 20 years of selling on eBay, I think I have reached my limit of how awful eBay has become.
I just needed to vent!!! Moving on....gotta put up a listing on Poshmark.

Feel free to vent - we all do. Being the transaction was cancelled tho - there should not be a late shipment as there was no information of a shipment to being with. There are a lot of glitches happening - but did you have a couple of other sales where maybe Ebay and the PO didn't update right away. It's not automatic. The PO will always show a delivery or scan hours before Ebay has hold of the information.
A seller has to go where the money is. Many of us sell on multiple platforms so we can keep the income at a level we were use to when just using Ebay.

I just called eBay again and the shipping defect is being removed. I looked it up and I knew that you can only get one defect per transaction. The original CSR argued with me about this and told me that I was wrong and he worked and the defect department. I asked for a supervisor and was refused.
I called back again and told them I wanted the shipping defect removed and that there needs to be some education done in the "defect" department.
If this should happen to anyone else, here's the link that states that you can only get one defect per transaction. I might be old, but I'm not senile LOL https://pages.ebay.com/seller-center/service-and-payments/defect-removal.html#automatic-defect-remov...

Do us all a favor when you list your item on Poshmark ... if it is also listed on eBay, please take the eBay listing down first.
eBay's entire platform is predicated upon the idea that a seller can actually deliver an item when it sells. Your situation was entirely preventable and entirely within your control, and reflects badly on us all.
The last thing responsible eBay sellers need is another non-performing seller on the venue who disappoints buyers and discourages them from returning.

Any item I list on another platform these days, does not get listed on eBay at all. I'm slowly lowering the number of items for sale on eBay so I can concentrate elsewhere. I'm only listing items these days that are not compliant with other platforms.
That said, however, I have only had the one item slip by me in the year that I have been cross posting. So, no I am not removing my cross posted items from eBay. Except for this one time, I am a totally performing eBay seller.
I appreciate your opinion on this, but buyers are leaving because of a lot of other reasons, not for my one mis-step.

It may be only one misstep for you but I can assure you sellers are cancelling orders from buyers all the time. I had two in one week. It's really annoying.
I thought Ebay now had rules that you cannot list multiple places? What if something sells in the middle of the night twice?

They have never had such a rule and I expect they never will (it would be impossible to enforce anyway). There are many sellers who have multiples so of course they want to list on multiple sites.
The software I use has an allocation plan, if you have only a quantity of 1 and list on multiple sites it will automatically end any other listings for something that sells on one site but is listed on another (with up to a 15 minute lag).

Thank you for sharing this info.
Didn't know there was such a thing as a 'defect' dept LOL
Unfortunately there are many CS reps who don't have the proper knowledge to solve or they won't admit they don't know. I just hang up and call back.
Some platforms automatically put the sold item into ebay's unsold list, I know because it happens with my listings.
I guess the platform you mention does not do this, so extra diligence is needed.
Good luck with your cross-selling!
Seems that's the only way to make a few extra sales now a days : (
and happy you feel better ; )

If something sells on two platforms over night and one is eBay, I default to shipping the eBay sale. It hasn't happened, but that would be my solution.

You only got one actual defect--not three. You may have been punished in more than one way, but not everything is a defect.
Out of Stock -- defect
Negative feedback -- not a defect
Late shipping -- not a defect

Selling & Buying
EBay has manny rules but often fails to impose penalties for failure of compliance sufficient to effectively serve as a deteriant.

Just to update you on the defect and late shipment ratings. They do not actually get rating until the 20th of the month not including the current month. This give the system enough time to make updates to tracking and also gives eBay a chance to review duplicate like you are explaining.
Good Luck Selling!

Interesting. Learn something new every day. I only wish eBay could make these things clearer. But it is what it is. Thanks.
