Member falsely states winning an auction

Got a message from another member that did not win the auction . I was pad by the real winner and shipped the item. Got the following from another member : “What happened I won the auction. I don't know what the message you sent me that I owe money or something. I have a perfect feed back everyone I have done business with has been extremely happy. The only thing that has happened someone wanted to return something and I gave him his money back and I never got my stuff back. I am going to get ebay involved because this is ridiculous I go above and beyond with everyone I deal with on ebay.”

Spoke with eBay help and confirmed the real winner. Any thoughts what happened?

Re: Member falsely states winning an auction

There are two types of scams that follow this pattern.......

1 - an eBay user who is NOT the actual buyer will send you a message asking you to ship to a different address, these messages usually come very soon after the sale (and hour or two).

2 - A standard phishing email send in bulk to thousands of sellers, the message is made to sound very urgent, if you click a link in the page you get taken to a fake eBay page with a fake login. In your rush to see what this is all about you log in, perhaps nothing happens  or you end up on an error page but by this time your eBay username and password have been stolen. This scammer may use the login info to hijack your account or they will sell off the info to another scammer who will use it to hijack the account. The people in real serious trouble are the ones that use the same password for eBay and PayPal, now the scammer has access to use your credit card / banking info to steal your money.

Your message sounds more like #2.

Re: Member falsely states winning an auction

This is a easy one. Tell the customer to contact ebay with his/her concerns ... and don't forget to BLOCk this user.
