Managed Payments is killing my business.

I bought what Ebay was selling and signed up for managed payments at the beginning.  A couple months down the road I've had my seller rating downgraded due to a drop in sales and I found  out today that  because I was enrolled in the Global Shipping Program when I opted in to managed payments, ALL international buyers were receiving "Blocked" messages when they tried to purchase my items.  Two CSR's helped me to get to the bottom of this and when I was sent to managed payments to opt out, the rep took 2 minutes to review the 1 hour's worth of tech support and told me they were wrong and that it had nothing to do with managed payments (she indicated that they didn't know this because they don't work in the managed payments department.)  I promptly opted out of the program and am hopeful it didn't do too much damage to my business and that I can get back on track with PayPal soon.  Sellers beware... I feel abused and taken advantage of.

Another ebay blunder!

PSA to ebay:  its 2019 if you dont accept paypal anymore how do you expect to attract buyers?

I refuse to use a credit card on ebay and will not buy from anyone who does not accept paypal , I feel bad for the ones who got suckered into this travesty

Re: Managed Payments is killing my business.

I have a feeling when they switch everyone over, it's gonna hurt a lot of sellers.

Buyers like using Pay Pal because they have pretty good buyer protection.

With all the fraud on Ebay now days, buyers won't want to buy if they can't pay with Pay Pal.

Have a great day.

Re: Managed Payments is killing my business.

AFAIK, GSP transactions are not allowed by Managed Payments.  Hopefully that will change in the future.

Supposedly Paypal will be added to Managed Payments in the summer of 2019.

Re: Managed Payments is killing my business.

I understood that I couldn't use the GSP with managed payments, but not that foreign buyers would receive a "Blocked" message and have no way to purchase my items (until a very helpful buyer in S. Korea sent me a screenshot). Apples and oranges, castlemagicmemories.

Re: Managed Payments is killing my business.

This all seems so convoluted;

Ebay has pushed the GSP as a great tool and states in their policy that "To sell through the Global Shipping Program, You must accept PayPal as a payment method"

But if you are in the ebay Managed Payment program,  you cannot accept paypal nor use the GSP!  "We currently do not support the Global Shipping Program for sellers who have registered for managed payments."

So I guess the answer is to avoid ebay's Managed Payment as long as possible before it is mandatory,  if you want to accept paypal or use the GSP and don't want to lose business from European or other customers that don't use or don't want to use credit-cards.

Glad ebay simplified things! laughing

You hoped you would get international orders and ship on your own.  I'm sorry that didn't happen.  I hope you haven't permanently lost that business.  You could let the one who contacted you know that you are not in Managed Payments anymore, but you don't know who else may have got that message.

Maybe you could put something in your description going forward to let your foreign buyers know that the situation has changed.  Just a thought.

Re: Managed Payments is killing my business.

That is true. When I purchase online I ALWAYS use Paypal. Most of the name brand stores and supply companies take Paypal now. Unless I personally know a company and have purchased from them for years I will not buy from a company that doesn't accept Paypal. I guess because I feel if they don't accept Paypal they may be dishonest and are trying to pull one over so to speak. Just sayin. . . 😏

Re: Managed Payments is killing my business.

I am an ebay buyer for 20 years and I refuse to use anything but PayPal.  I have two credit card companies (AMEX and CITI) who both told me there is no protection from credit card information landing in the wrong hands aka hacked and I will not play into ebay. I have told 6 sellers that I would have purchased from them IF they used PayPal and all are complaining to ebay but I doubt it will do any good.

Yes, your sales will be down as buyers will move elsewhere - it's not worth the hassle and we don't need your merchandise.  We will shop with those who still take PayPal or some other website.

My 2 cents.

I'm hopeful that's true, but I'm not sure where you're getting you're information that it's already underway.

Thank you, yes, you're right.  I recall reading that recently.  I'm just stuck on the summer statement.  Sorry, @dhbookds
