So Paypal has an option to set up Direct Deposit for paychecks. You can log into your account and see their routing number and an account number. It says it's a checking account held at Wells Fargo Bank.
This makes me think I should be able to use that info to set up my managed payments as a seller to go directly into my Paypal account. Has anyone tried this? I understand there may still be a delay as if eBay was sending the money to my regular bank, but I want to keep my eBay money separate from my regular checking account and this seems simpler than setting up a 2nd checking account. (I'm a pretty small seller, under $1000 a month even at my busiest but I like having that money go to my Paypal as an account to use for online purchases, special occasions, etc.) Any thoughts?

That may be a good solution.

Pretty sure ebay has been asked about that, and the answer was no....you need your own bank account. You might want to ask on the Payments Board.

There have been other posts suggesting the same thought.
Each that I have read has said NO.
eBay MP requires an account that can also be debited. Is that possible with that PP set up?

Yes, but who "owns" that account? Paypal, correct? E-bay will want the account you use to be in your name and an account that is yours.

Hm, maybe not. It says it accepts government payments such as tax refunds but I don't know if it could pay out if you owed. I don't actually have Direct Deposit with Paypal, just saw it was an option.

It's not really a problem for me to set up a separate account, but it seems eBay has no understanding of the many, many Americans who live paycheck to paycheck without access to a bank account. (AKA the reason why check cashing businesses exist.)

Sellers have had 3 years to figure out their checking account problems.

PayPal isn't a bank and it has to be a bank account. And 'ins' and 'outs' are a requirement. Good luck and welcome aboard.

And Ebay is not a bank that can just up and ask for your SSN#, Ebay I understand is doing this for tax purposes but hello alot of us have been here for over 20 years and now its like NOPE you hard work and your POWER SELLER doesnt mean a thing.

Small sellers without a shop have literally just heard about this for the first time. There is a message from May 6 in my inbox from eBay, nothing ever before that. People who sell casually or only occasionally and don't hang out on the community boards would never have had any reason to have heard about this before now. Not everyone has time to devote to monitoring and studying every detail of eBay if they don't use it as a full-time job.

Ugh, and what about someone in a relationship whose spouse controls the checking account/money and only their name is on the account? Paypal is one way for people to have a little financial freedom in an uneven relationship like that.

There is nothing that can stop you from opening your own checking account even in a financial relationship as you have described. Chime is an online bank that you can open for free and use to keep a separate account. I did that when I was registered for Managed Payments so eBay would not have any access to funds in my regular checking account, and it keeps my eBay money separate from my regular funds. The book keeping is simpler as well since there no commingling of funds.
