Earlier today I caled Customer Service to find out why my listings were not showing up or when they did they were not showing up as promoted and my top seller rating landed me last in many searches. The lady didnt have any answers but whatever she did, it has duplicated my items when searching. Ughhh. I noticed several postings with similiar or contributing problems. Shouldnt we receive some sort of notification of problems so impacting and how will I know when it is solved?

Thank you, now I am. I have been selling on here for many years and never saw this happen before. This morning I called ebay again and the they stated that promoted items will show in duplicate. I promote everything upon creation and honestly never saw this happen. She also stated that they no longer rely on ebay search engine that they use an ebay set algorythm so they can show up anywhere in the search.

When you say duplicated........you are aware that with promoted listings.......usually one shows up in search as normal and the same one shows up as "sponsored'?

Hi, DH. I see this thread has a Solution...but did you read the OPs last comment where CS told them they no longer rely on the ebay search engine? What does that mean to me? Are there 2 ebay search engines? One for us regular folks who don't do promotions, and another engine to show Promoted listings? Not trying to be a goofus here, but take issue with the CS claim about not relying on the "ebay search engine." And, I know, you take what CS tells you with a big grain of salt. Thanks if you or anyone else can clarify...

First, eBay customer support are minimum wage workers who probably lack the knowledge or expertise to correctly explain how eBay's search works.
Second, you are relying on what a poster here said about what a customer support representative said about how eBay works.
That being said ..
I read it to mean that promoted listings have a completely different placement algorithm than the placement algorithm used by eBay search.

Agreed...........what people don't realize is that the promoted listings can show up in the sidebars, on the "see other items" inside listings and anywhere else ebay can think to show them. Ebay has stated they "determine" to whom to show them based on a buyer's buying record or interests (presumably what they search for).......so while a buyer is searching for grills, they could show him a leather jacket if he's searched for that in the near past.
