I recently had a item removed because my title had a question mark beside the hallmark. Many sellers do that, for example: Juliana? Nine times out of 10 they are NOT Juliana pieces, but that is allowed.
My title was for a necklace signed RLL, which many existing listings have attributed to Ralph Lauren. Because of looking at the other listings on Ebay, I concluded that it also must be Ralph Lauren. I am not at all familar with RLL, but I do extensively search the web for the info. What is saw through many listings is that it is Ralph Lauren. Also on ETSY listings, the same thing. . . . . Ralph Lauren
My issue is this: If mine is removed, then all the others must also be removed. I am watching to see if it will be removed.
What I would like to know from the community is this: Have you seen or know of the older Lauren pieces hallmark? I have seen on the new jewelry R R(reversed) and lined up with the L. I have also seen R L L which is the hallmark on my necklace.
Any info would be appreciated.

Thank you Suzanne, I was in the mall today and saw that hallmark on the purses. It was the same. I guess I just can't use the question mark. But, as you may know, some sellers use it all the time.

Don't hold your breath - on my other ID I recently had an item removed - I make these cool sterling silver roach clips out of old victorian button hooks. There were approximately 10 on ebay at that time by perhaps 4 other sellers. Ebay yanked mine stating drug accessories. Huh? under the verbage roach clip at that time there were 1,100ish listings . I called (waste of time) I explained to them that they had hundreds. Their response was they were "getting" to those others. I waited a week. Geez still a bizillion. Waited another week and my maiin competitor was still listing the exact same thing. He's still selling them. Only thing I can figure is his feedback was around 13,000 and mine in that store was only 356. He's still selling those sterling silver roach clips. Go figure

Are you talking about a designer name or trademark? I'm not sure that those are the same thing as a hallmark. Of course, putting a name or trademark with a question mark is not an acceptable practice. If you are not sure of brand or designer of the item, do not attribute it to any. Or you could do your homework and research the item to determine the correct information.
I would consider putting "Rembrandt?" the same as putting "Not Rembrandt" in the title to get an item to show up in search results. That's a No-No.

It's clear a competitor reported your listing, so if you see any listings using the question mark the same way you did you might as well report every single one of those user you saw doing so.

"...Nine times out of 10 they are NOT Juliana pieces, but that is allowed."
Getting away with something is not the same as being allowed.

Here is the policy outlining the use of "?" in the title:
http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/search-manipulation.html
...'Not allowed: Using a question mark "?" when you're not sure about the brand. For example, you can't describe an item as "McCoy? cookie jar...." '

fashion jewelry, meaning none of it's expensive or made with precious metal. And no one would copy or replicate inexpensive pieces like that, as it's just not worth it.
You'd think that, but I am very fond of Betsey Johnson jewelry, which is also relatively inexpensive (most pieces are under $100 retail) , but there is a lot of fake Betsey stuff on eBay (and etsey and Bonanza and everywhere).
They don't even necessarily make it cheaper, so you don't know until you get it.
Now I stick to buying her pieces at department stores and paying full price.

If you do not know the brand, do not list it with a name.
Not just KWS but worse. It often implies counterfeit.

Sellers have to KNOW the authenticity too. In fact, ebay's authenticity disclaimer policy specifically refers to a question mark when you aren't sure. (And it's disallowed.)
http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/authenticity-disclaimers.html
Specifically:
Not Allowed
Sellers are not allowed to:
List items that aren't authentic
List items if they're not sure if they are authentic
In addition, sellers can't disclaim authenticity of their item by stating, for example:
"I cannot guarantee the authenticity of this item, so please bid accordingly."
"Vintage handbag Chanel???"
"Looks like this could be a Louis Vuitton bag"
"I believe this is painted by Degas, but I can't be sure."
"I got this from an estate sale, so I have no idea if it's real or not."
"The autograph looks real to me."
"I'm no expert, so look at the pictures and decide for yourself if it's real."
