Listing in 2 categories

When I list in 2 categories, cat.A and cat.B; and if there is a bid in cat.A, will it be shown a bid in cat.B too?

Will there be a case when 2 different Buyers bidding on the same item in cat.A and cat.B?

Re: Listing in 2 categories

No. It will not split into two listings. The same listing shows up in two caregories. The purpose for it is to show up in more searches for people who check certain categories when looking for an item. Others may find it beneficial but I personally do not use it for my listings. Be aware of any fees that may be charged for it.

Re: Listing in 2 categories

It is only shown in 2 categories, but it is 1 listing.

As mycarolina said, there will be fees associated with the 2nd category (definitely insertion fees &  double upgrades if any)

Ask yourself this...

Do you search by category? or just pop info into the search bar?  What category are the comps in?  One or two?

Re: Listing in 2 categories

The base problem is that in some cases, you really do want to list in two categories due to the poor way ebay has them set up for antique/vintage items.

I just wish they showed you which category got hits/watchers/bids.

You can tell - it takes just a few clicks when viewing the solds to see which category generate the most sales.

That won't work to find out which category your listing was seen or bid on from most often for auctions.

That sure would be useful, which is why it will probably never happen.

It's not just "do you search by category?", it's also "will ebay search for you, or force you to search, by category?".  Often they do.  You do a search, there's 1,200 items in 17 categories.  There's a lot of junk.  Buyer will select a category (likely a relevant one!) to refine the search and weed out the unrelated garbage.  If you're not in that category, your item just disappeared.

As an example, I usually put Third Reich WWII coins in Coins, and in Collectibles-WWII.  Buyers in either niche are generally going to not look at listings in the other category.

I assume you saw the little gem in the last "Update"?  If you list in 2 Categories that have different FVF rates (as is often the case for me, anytime I have a Store subscription), they're going to charge you the higher FVF.

With no Store, the insertion fee rate (what you're going to be charged for a 2nd Category) just went up to 0.35.  They won't let you apply your "Free" listing allotment to it either.

I probably wouldn't do it for any Fixed Price listings, but with an Auction even one additional bid is usually going to be worth more than 0.35, and may well be worth many dollars.
