My eBay listing was removed for a "hand purifier". The email stated it was removed for price gouging. The item was listed at retail. Upon confronting eBay, they stated it wasn't removed for price gouging but because it is a restricted item. Then I received another email stating it was for price gouging. I searched the listings and found several of the SAME item listed that were actually price gouging. I was told if I found such items eBay would act quickly and remove them. They have remained listed and no action was taken. If the items are restricted and NONE are being allowed to be listed, why are they listed and at 2, 3, 4 or more times the retail price? I have this all documented. Anyone else with similar issues? How do we hold eBay accountable. I have filed BBB and FTC complaints and am preparing to go to the media. See a few examples posts.

Why am I not allowed to list batteries and combo locks? It says its due to price gouging?
You will need to check with Ebay for that answer. We wouldn't have that here for you. All we can do is guess.

Well the BBB is a franchise business (and a for profit one) set up by LOCAL businesses to mediate problems with LOCAL customers.
No authority, any more than any mediator.
(Full disclosure, when we had a B&M shop, we were members of our local BBB. It was excellent advertising at a very low price. Many collectors checked the BBB website before contacting us.)
But I would encourage you to go to the media and watch what fun they have with those they decide are "the bad guys" in a situation, for example someone selling masks at a price the reporter decides is higher than she would like to pay.
I am amazed how many people think the BBB is some kind of ultra powerful government agency capable of sanctioning companies for their wrongdoing.
It's actually quite the opposite.

One of the main points I think you're missing is that the OP was given conflicting information the same way our government does to us.
I don't see how you can criticize the OP when it even states in the letter that the ebay employee understands why there is confusion....

So you don't take issue that selling two 1 oz bottles of hand sanitizer for $21 is price gouging and in direct conflict with Ebay's March 5th announcement about banned items? If the OP had been adhering to that announcement, this would have never happened.

I dunno.... could it be because Hand Sanitizer was banned back in MARCH, it's now the end of APRIL. OP knew something was up because they listed the item not as it is commonly known as actual Hand Sanitizer, but tried to get around the ban by calling it Hand Purifier???
Then tried to justify it by stating "others are doing it why can't I?" Are we children?

WOW.. you're way behind getting the info Ebay put out weeks ago. Doesn't matter if you are gouging or not. Too many scammers showed up and Ebay had to make a decision to just ban them all. Thank the gougers and no need to waste customer service calls anymore.

Is there some evidence that I missed...?
The ebay letter mentions that the product in question was listed at a reasonable price, yet still banned regardless.

First, How do you know the bottle didn't say "hand purifier"....?
Second, I was pointing out the conflicting nature of the letter leading to added confusion, not the fact that his item is currently prohibited.

You simply need to look at their sold items and you will see them. You will see the two listings they sold for hand purifier.

This is probably the smallest of the nits to pick, but the label on the products sold does actually say "hand purifier".

Ok, I see it now...I only read the contradicting letter where the ebay employee agrees that it was reasonably priced.
And a quick check of sales for this particular product before March 5 confirms that the OP is not price gouging, especially giving the fact that it has free shipping.
Just because something appears high to you does not indicate or prove price gouging.
Someone at ebay needs to clean up that letter! It completely contradicts itself.

Someone posted that the OP was "trying to get around the ban" by listing it as hand purifier....when that's exactly what it is. So there was clearly no intent to be sneaky....the OP has a long, proven history of selling such products.

The comment that this title was somehow a sign that the seller was trying to get around the Ebay ban did NOT come from me. That was a different poster. The seller used the actual name of the product as stated on the label of the product. So no nits and picks here. You got the wrong gal.

You see something in Ebay's March 5th memo that I must have missed. Where does it say you can have increased pricing on BANNED items if you offer free shipping?
Here is a link so you can point it out for me.
You are correct, my opinion of price gouging really doesn't mean anything nor is it important. But Ebay's rule that this is a banned item does matter no matter what the price is.

twas me... should have double checked first.
Items have still been banned since March.
