Is there a reason ebay no longer gives out listing promos anymore? I havent gotten a extra promo for free or discounted listings in months? Have they done away with it?

i got one that ended on the 12th.
do you have a store?
when i had a store, ebay rarely gave me a promo.

Free listing promos just glut the site with cheap stuff, and hinders any searches.
Every time free listing promos come out, I have to wade thru pages of a single plastic toy soldier newly made in china for 99 cents that will never sell.

.
I'm confused. How do you figure that? Are you saying you pay more than 10% fvf to eBay and 2.9% (.30) to paypal?
As far as promos -- I haven't gotten one in a year.
on small transactions when you add up the 30 cents transaction fee, PP ends up being way more than 2.9%.
on a $7.95 item, the PP % plus the transaction fee of 30 cents (total) will end up being well over 6% but not quite 7%.
of course not saying the OP only sells low $ items.

i have checked what you sell in the past.
you are selective and sell rarer and more desirable items.
doubt any promo will stop potential buyers from seeing your items.
when you are searching to buy, you could always check US sellers only.
that might no take care of all foreign sellers but of many of them.

No, it's the US sellers who load these up when the free listings come out. They seem to think they are good Marx figures and might sell - but in reality they are just dollar store toys.

I used to get a free listing promo almost every month for 500 or more listings in 2013-15. I have had only one since last November, and that one was for 100 listings only.
I don't know if I am on eBay's "poop" list or if I have just been unlucky, but in the end, you can't complain about not getting something you were never promised in the first place.
My sales on eBay are abysmal compared to where they were back in 2013. Seriously, about 15% what I used to sell. Sales elsewhere have held steady or grown. So there is absolutely no motivation on my part to go back to my old store level or pay for listings. That money is much better spent on sites that actually show my items to customers.
So I guess that is the stand off with me. I won't pay to list items on eBay until my sales go back up to a resonable level. I suspect eBay will eventually crack and start giving out more free listing promos to people like me, but if they don't, well I will be fine. Afterall, I have other places to go and sell. Ebay relies on the sellers to provide inventory. Sellers can live without eBay, eBay cannot live without sellers.

eBay cannot live without sellers.
I actually agree with that statement (I remain convinced that buyers are much more important).
On the other hand I would refine that statement to read "eBay cannot live without sellers but they could certainly live with 10,000,000 sellers instead of the 25,000,000 they currently have".
As far as buyers, eBay or ANY merchant can rarely have too many buyers.

One aspect of this topic worth bearing in mind, in the past when eBay seemed to work much better, almost all sellers where also buyers. And many buyers became sellers over time.
By destroying the small seller community eBay has also destroyed much of its buying base. I bought on eBay for at least a year before I started selling. And probably bought more than I sold for my first ten years on the site. There are very few people like that today.
I don't know how the math all works out, but dividing eBay users up into buyers and sellers denys one of the site's only traditional advantages over other (better run and less annoying) e-commerce sites, that it was built on a community of people who bought AND sold.

I think you missed my point. I wasn't suggesting that people shouldn't try and sell things they found at tag sales.
I said I would rather ebay charge $0.30 insertion fees (with no freebies) with much lower FVF's (maybe 5%) people would think twice about listing stuff that should have been th won away.

I agree with this 100%. I started selling on eBay because my daughter was into American girl dolls. They were so expensive so I bought lots of AG items on eBay , I took out a few items for my daughter and sold the rest of the pieces in the lot individualy with the hope of breaking even after fees. It worked out really well when I got the 500 free insertions because many of the pieces would sell for $10/$15 each. When my daughter grew out of the phase I stopped selling for a while. My other daughter is now into it and I buy a 10th of what I use to buy because of minimal buyers and no free insertions.

Except you said you absolutely wouldn't pay 30 cents to list an item in the same post.

You really need to read people's post before you reply. I said
I will not pay $.30 to list an item, AND 10% and final value fees, AND a10% of the shipping cost
I would happily pay $.30 for insertion fee On all items IF the final value fees were much lower and they didn't charge a 10% fee on shipping

don't know what you sell.
these days ebay is about rare, desirable, hot, current fast, in demand stuff, price.
of course it was easier back in 2013.
but how is it Ebay's fault?
most of what i sold back then wouldn't sell today.
today is a buyer's market.
unless rare, it is all going to be about "price".
just bought a brand new CD at Target for $3.99, best of Abba.
and a brand new pair of Faded Glory Jeans at Walmart for under $10.
i have no need for ebay and thrift shops for everyday stuff.
i sell collectibles and junk.
along the years the site has been flooded with such products.
it is logical that along the years prices went down the drain.
it is NOT ebay's fault.
it is about supply and demand.
even if ebay would slash listings, sellers by half;
it wouldn't change that.
the Antiques and Collectible market has been damaged beyond repair.
but please enlighten me.
what other sites are you talking about?
i sell on a few others myself.
sales are not better.
the average stuff (in my categories) doesn't sell any better or faster than here.

Once I opened a store I went on eBay's Don't-send-her-a-coupon-she'll-list-anyway List
