My suspicion, based on past battles with sloppy coding in eBay pages, is that the first coding misfire is still uncorrected, and is blocking anything else that you try to do beyond that point, including mundane steps like trying to save a draft.
I think you're going to need to go back out and in again with a fresh start. If you've got a lot of work done in the description field or elsewhere, see if you can grab all the text in there via Ctrl+A followed by Ctrl+C, then dump that into a Notepad window via Ctrl+V. Once that's done, hit Refresh on the listing form, or just close it out and go in again.
If your second go-round still ends up with a List Item button that doesn't do anything, scroll back up the page and check every field to be sure it's correct and has some value in it (assuming that it's not optional). Not every form misfire will give you an error message. Some may just flag a required field with an asterisk (*), or outline it in red and hope that you notice it. Some will do nothing at all to flag the error, except that the button to commit the form (e.g. List Item) will not go live.
One other possibility is that you've got a popup blocker that's hiding a window waiting for a response. For example, if I'm working on an eBay form and a Chicago Tribune headline popup appears in the lower right corner of my screen (I'm a subscriber), some functions of the form will not work until I clear the Tribune popup. I wouldn't think a hidden or blocked popup should block a response from going to another window, but stranger things have happened. If you have any other interactive windows open that you don't need to keep running at that moment, close them out (not just minimize) and see if that will get you past the hangup in the eBay window.
