So tell me, how in the name of Mike was I just told that scammers are not stopped in their tracks?
I have a buyer claiming damage. He is flat out lying. Ebay customer service sees his pictures , sees his messages and agrees. I think I'm in the clear!!! Until...........
The rep tells me that I need to accept the return anyway. I say that is insane, since it's clearly not a case of "not as described" nor "not received". I'm told I'm correct, but I need to take it back. Then appeal it. I ask again why am I taking back an item the seller clearly admits is just a manipulation of the return policy? I'm told I have to.
If you actually don't stop scammers , why even allow us to have a no return policy? I'm flat out told that it doesn't matter he is admitting he's playing the system!
Now to make it better he just wrote me saying "the damage is in your pics" WHICH LITERALLY MEANS HE SAW WHAT HE WAS GETTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WHY????????????//

"No returns" policy is for buyer's remorse.
I agree with you that the eBay return process when there is a clear display of buyer fraud is a poor policy.

I have the same question. I want to sell an item that is NIB, but I'm worried the buyer will say the item doesn't work and return a broken item. What protects the seller?

I meant to reply to your post. I have the same question and I'm afraid of listing an item that is NIB for fear they will say it doesn't work and return their own broken item. If I take it out of the box to test it, it's no longer NIB. What protects the seller?

Was the damage mentioned in the description?

Nothing protects the seller. The first thing you need to learn about e bay is to NEVER and I MEAN NEVER, EVER, Nada, Zero, Zilch list something you cannot afford to give away.

Is this for the torn Spiderman box that you never mentioned in the description?

@legally_blonde
Nothing. Just about anything can be had for free (at the seller's expense) on this site by a fraudulent claim. You have to make decisions based on your own risk tolerance. eBay considers it "part of doing business" on the net. Fortunately, not all selling venues have a "one click, pick your lie, and return anything you want" return/refund policy.

That doesn't mean you will prevail in the dispute. It is simply to make you feel better about what is going to happen to you anyway. The outcome is determined as soon as the buyer clicks a "not as described" reason for a return. Messages don't count, pictures and description don't matter and the end result will be made by the entity that controls the money. Go along with the program and accept the return, ebay will take over. They refund the buyer from your proceeds, and may allow the buyer to keep the item as well. In addition, you will have no fees refunded and be awarded a serious "case without seller resolution" defect.
It is not fair, it is not logical, and it is indeed annoying to have it inferred that you are some sort of liar or crook. It is just how it is here.

The damage on the bodysuit is mentioned
There is apparently a small dimple in the nose. Nothing you or I would notice or even deem a defect. When I zoomed in on the picture, I do see a small dent/dimple/etc.. However it's not anything resembling an issue. However the point was he claimed it was banged around in shipping, damaged, etc.. These ship in fitted cartons. That can't happen.

The issue isn't the box. And the small tear is clearly shown so, in case anyone did care about the box, it's shown.

Even if it was, it would not make any difference.
I can have an antique doll with one arm. I can have in the title in all caps: doll missing arm, I can put in the description in five different places the doll is missing an arm, and I can show six photos of the front, back, sides, and bottom of my doll with the gaping hole in her side.
Buyer clicks "SNAD", and I am toast. It does not help me anymore if the buyer decides to put in the comments "doll is missing an arm". I either get to fund the return no matter what comes back, or let them keep the poor wounded antique for free.

I know it doesn't make any difference on the outcome.
But it does help deciding if it's a good or false INAD.
If it's a false one, you can report the buyer for abusing the MBG.
I know it wouldn't change anything now, but might help a seller later.

You have a good point. But do you really believe that ebay is actually going to do any "human" investigating after the fact? That takes resources and I seriously doubt they even look at any case details. It is likely why we have this "one-click, pick your lie return/refund" program now. Humans are no longer needed (not allowed) to make judgements as would be the case in my doll with missing arm scenario. My product WAS as described, but for some reason I am still at fault.
When this new version of auto-snads came out and became obviously apparent to everyone what was going on...it was explained to us that even if you sold/pictured a blue shirt, and the buyer filed not as described with the comment "I got a blue shirt" the snad would stand. No more of this changing to buyer's remorse was going to be allowed (even though color was considered a remorse reason) since the buyer "was probably unhappy about some other aspect of the product," and therefore the claim would stand.
Don't forget either the mantra of "one bad buyer experience" could result in that buyer leaving eBay for good... We wish the liar buyers WOULD leave ebay for good, but they like it here just fine.
I will never forget the ebay Vice Pres. of (something I forget) declaring in some discussion about not so savory buyers. It has stuck in my brain all these years: WE WANT ALL BUYERS EVEN IF THEY ARE BAD.

The bottom line is, you have to mark up your price enough so that 10% of the stuff you sell will be stolen because ebay sides with scammers. What I want is, if 5% of all feedback left by an ebay buyer is negative, then I don't want that person to be able to bid or buy my stuff. I have put my settings as high as they will go, still not high enough. I ban people with too many unpaid items, and violations of ebay policy, etc, and still it is not filter enough. We need one to cover how many claims the buy files in resolution center per 100 transactions.
