Left a Buyer Negative Feedback and Rating But They Are Showing 100% Positive Feedback

I left  negative comment and a negative rating for a buyer who did not pay AFTER I cancelled the transaction per the policy and AFTER eBay requested the feedback.

I did not violate policy as others originally stated by some in the "now deleted" post. My rating matched the comments. The buyer did not ask me to modify the comment nor the rating.

The user had other feedback that was similar (negative comments but a positive rating) so there is obviously something off.  They only had 3 feedbacks - all negative comments but 100% positive rating.

Unfortunately, I was not able to see the feedback prior to sending out an offer since I am not able to see who is a watcher on an item.

Has anyone seen this before?

Since 2008 sellers have NOT been able nor allowed to leave negative or neutral feedback for buyers.

Leaving positive feedback with a negative comment is a violation of eBays feedback policy

There is no option to leave an actual negative feedback to a buyer. The most you can do is leave a positive feedback with a negative comment. That's breaking eBay's rules and you could get your account in trouble or even suspended for doing that enough.

When people tell you this they're not defending eBay's rule they're just letting you know what it is.

Thank you for that but that's very confusing because if we "must" leave positive feedback then why ask me to choose the amount of stars? I chose one star and left the negative feedback accordingly. If it's going to "default" to a "5 star rating" then why would eBay allow me the option? I chose one star.

Can't name and shame on the forum.  All buyers get positive feedback. Since 2008.  Some may get a negative comment with a positive mark, but that's a no no.  If it's reported, eBay will usually remove it.

I'm really not trying to shame anyone. I am just trying to potentially point out a flaw or a glitch. I was given an option to leave a star rating and I chose "1" and left the negative comment accordingly. I did not do this with intent. I'm 100% confused as why eBay would ask for a star rating, ASK for feedback and then change it to a positive. Why ask for it at all?

Again...I was prompted for the feedback after cancelling the transaction.

There is no five star system for rating buyers. You were probably somehow rating eBay. They have pop up Windows sometimes with stars for your experience dealing with an eBay feature.

Star ratings are for sellers not buyers

My feedback is automatic for my buyers, but I don’t  recall ever having the ability to leave star ratings.   Feedback is optional, so if you don’t wish to give a buyer a positive, just don’t give any.

Technically the person was not a buyer, they did not pay for an item.

I should have made that more clear in my original post. I cancelled the transaction since they did not pay. I left the feedback including the star rating which was a 1 and the comments to match. Ebay prompted me for the feedback about the specific user.

There would have been no way to leave a negative rating for a buyer.

Yes, it is a violation of policy as your negative comment could NOT have matched the ONLY positive rating buyers can receive.

Sellers cannot and do not leave DSR (star) ratings for buyers. There's no option to do that so there's no way you could have given your buyer 1 star.

Then there is a glitch.

I am a seller and after I cancelled the transaction, I was prompted to leave a rating AND feedback for the "user".  For this particular user, they also had similar feedback due to non-payment.

So yes, this happened. I am not hallucinating.

Everyone is referring to a BUYER and I mistakenly did as well however, technically, this person was not a buyer maybe this is why my experience was different.

Of course we know that technically they were not a buyer, but it’s much easier to type than person that did not pay.  I don’t know what glitch you are referring to.  I can see a false positive you gave recently.  By design there isn’t a negative rating available to pick from for a person that didn’t pay.

If you used nonpayment as the reason to cancel the order, neither side could leave feedback.

Have a great day.

Left a Buyer Negative Feedback and Rating But They Are Showing 100% Positive Feedback

"By design there isn’t a negative rating available to pick from for a person that didn’t pay. "

But there was otherwise, I wouldn't have posted in the first place. I was given the option to choose the star rating. I didn't give a "false positive".  I went to locate the user name so I could block the user and then noticed the discrepancy. In fact, when I chose the "1 star" I wondered how the 2 other sellers made the mistake of giving them a positive rating.

This is why I posted in the first place. I wanted to see if there was a way that eBay support could look into this but there is no way to report any type of technical issues, so it seems but the only way to potentially look into this issue was posting in the community.

So it seems that even though I was asked for the star rating and asked for the feedback after the cancellation - I am not "allowed" to do this and every one has made that clear. Noted. So okay....poor user experience on eBay's part?

I was asked for a star rating.  AND a field to add comments. So I did.

Not sure what else to say but thanks for the comments and feedback.
