Morning! I was offered 500 free listings at the beginning of the week and have been power listing all week. I still have 400 free listings left and don't have the time today to create anymore listings. Should I end 400 listings and relist as "sell similar" just to refresh the listings even if they have watchers or should I just let them run...?

YES! I end all of my listings monthly. I despise GTC

I would and intend doing the same myself later today.
Sort your listings by oldest and do them.

I force myself to get at least a handful of new items listed with each promo, but then I end and relist as many as I need to to at least use up the 200 (that's what I got this time) freebies.

If you're going to launch GTC listings with those freebies, just remember that in a month they'll renew and if you're over your monthly limit, you'll get charged. So be sure to end those extras a bit before they're due to recycle.

It depends. If you have some that are getting older and have no sales, it may be beneficial to end them and do a sell similar or Relist on the listing. But if you have listings with a good sales history on them, I would not recommend doing this.
Keep in mind the differences between Sell Similar and Relist so you decide on the method best suited to your needs for that particular listing.

Both have problems right now - at least I'm finding this to be the case since Item Specifics got so wonderfully improved that even SIZE has now gone missing and irrelevancies like skirt LENGTH were made mandatory - all of which stop bulk relists in their tracks with red warning signs everywhere telling you that you have to add this content to the specifics, including those that were previously present and accounted for.
I can only suggest you experiment. In the end, I don't think the resultant listing is any more or less likely to be noticed or to sell depending on whether it's a Sell Similar or a Relist.

I had one of those red error messages yesterday trying to list a Walt Disney FANTASIA VHS movie. I could not relist it because a new ITEM SPECIFIC was added that never was REQUIRED before. The newly added MUST HAVE SPECIFIC was "ACTOR". I mean really who was the "ACTOR" in a 1940s animated movie??? I typed in MICKEY MOUSE as a joke and it TOOK! I will not be listing anymore movies vhs or dvd if I have to start adding actors and actresses to the SPECIFICS FIELD. What a complete waste of time.

I have not gotten any free listings in months! They use to send me a couple every month. I wonder why they suddenly stopped. Would love to know how that algorithm works!

I did that with 500 on one account. They had 10 days left, so I relisted using the special and extended them another 20 days rather than let the freebies go to waste.

What’s best to refresh listings, relist or sell similar? Thanks
Depends on the listing. Each has their place.
Sell Similar creates an entirely new listing.
Relist will refresh your listing and the sales history and views on that listing will follow the new listing for 90 days. You won't see that info, but it is there running in the background. Also if there are watchers on the original listing and those buyers have their site preferences set to receive the emails, they will be notified of your new listing. That can generate sales all by itself. In my experience, not often, but it most certainly has in the past for me. One just yesterday that I closed and relisted.
So you need to look at your listing you are going to close. In your Seller Hub is the easiest. You can see your sales history, view and if there are any watchers. Then decide which method is best on a listing by listing basis. There is no right or wrong answer. It just depends on what is best for that listing at the time.
Just keep in mind that if you have a solid sales history on any listing, you are better off to leave it alone. Let it renew naturally as it is doing fine.

@Anonymous
We all hit dry spells from time to time. For me in the first half or more of this year I may have gotten one, maybe, but it was likely zero. Last month and this month are the first time I got any in a very long time.
