Its not the economy that's all screwy is the citizens wanting a lifestyle that's unsustainable and BOTH parties as well economists are well aware its unsustainable.
Alas, even orthodox economics, both sides from Milton Friedman to Paul Krugman, are basically assumptions and hypotheticals. As my favorite historian of economics, Robert Heilbroner, called them, the economists, the "The Worldly Philosophers".
In my opinion it is not exactly the economy per se that is screwy but the political economy that has led to the juxtaposition of billionaires and legions of homeless. The downfall of the political economy started with The Powell Memorandum back in 1971 which was put into action by Ronald Reagan. The forces that drive economic inequality have gone unabated ever since. Most of our current social ills are but symptoms of our political economy as it stands now. Alas, even the "progressives" would prefer to address these symptoms and not directly address the causes.

Disagree. Establishment economics is based more on pie-in-the-sky models made in "math class" than heterodox economics is. After WWI, the elites recruited economists to diffuse to proles the idea that austerity is a good thing. You still see it now, when the Dems tell overstretched working families "It's going to be tough going" and then they turn around and dump tankers full of money on Ukraine and Wall Street.
Establishment economists have been a huge part of the problem all along. I read Krugman's last book and it was literally the worst writing I've ever seen, but then again he's big into monetary policy like all the others, and that really requires a lot of linguistic contortions. Read Clara Mattei, Mark Blyth, Michael Hudson, Warren Mosler's paper on MMT etc. There is literally no reason for all this middle class misery. None. And by the way, Biden still owes me $600 in stimulus bucks, which he absolutely, unreservedly promised, out loud, many times. If I'd known that was definitely coming I would have voted for Vermin Supreme tbh.
[edit] And what was that I saw the other week, where they were pouring perfectly good milk into the dumper? You're being systematically lied to, sir/maam.
And the futurists are even worse, yammering about solar farms in the Sudan that'll never ever happen while simultaneously telling Americans that robots won't steal their jobs. The "expert class" has lost all their cachet. No one who gets their news from online "Fifth Estate" sources trusts PhDs who're pushing the same old Adam Smith "Wealthy people do good" nonsense. It isn't working and never did, not to anyone who spent five seconds looking outside the box.

My ladies Brother's wife is a PHD in the stuff and her kids followed suit in college, one here and one in the UK. Want hear realities just park on the wall at Thanksgiving. The USA is SEVERELY lacking skilled trade workers even to the point Biden's big chip factory is bringing workers in from Taiwan. There's not a construction firm in America right now that has the numbers of trades folks to do the work... Heck, down by our camp at a Walmart Carpenters, Plumbers, Electrical Union folks are standing there with signs seeking folks to apprentice at far better than minimum wages. If I were young I'd be all over that. Same with cars, reason rates are so high at garages is lack of workers. In Wisconsin where they normally run three shifts for Cow Milk they are running one, not enough workers and dumping millions of gallons a week down the drain. Friend down at camp, does CNC, 12 hours a day four days a week and is KILLING IT make $$$ as they cant find anyone who cares make parts.
Its not the economy that's all screwy is the citizens wanting a lifestyle that's unsustainable and BOTH parties as well economists are well aware its unsustainable. The nations lust to obtain things and be entertained is the EXACT opposite of what made the land. That's why in modern times immigration has become so successful here in our history. Heck, if the nation simply went towards economic fairness among minorities the economy would explode with wealth. Trickle down economics IS trickle down lifestyles and WHY what was a one working household now has less wealth when two adults are working. The equation is IGNORE WEALTH, build millionaires and let them trickle it down. America now has 22 million millionaires commanding 158 trillion dollars not to mention corporations paying nowhere near what YOU PAY in percentiles. In compare we've 750 Billionaires commanding 5.7 Trillion. Welcome to The Country Club and the man actually with Country Clubs made compadres ever richer. Mitch McConnel is up over 20+ Million over those 4 years... Yeah, illusions count.
If we simply filled jobs now open with workers, add 7 trillion to the economy in as many years. All out there to read via credible sources. Read of Canada, UK, Australia, Germany to name few that are immigrating people in huge fashion, skilled, unskilled, training and then some. Immigration has always resulted in innovation, HEAPS of US Fortune 500 companies including eBay founded by folks who immigrated. That US History but now we've two parties who have both recognized how completely out of the loop information and knowledge wise Americans CHOOSE to be, so they've made it a game.

Absolutely. I concur 100%.

Well said! Certainly economics is one extremely variable pseudo-science.
It's not the billionaires albeit they've profited too its the millionaires which have grown in big fashion, 22 million of them in the USA. That's an incredible number and they tend vote country club as that's how many if not most achieved the wealth. Allot of what happened was cause and effect. Women in the workplace made for more middle class/upper middle wealth and credit abounded! The credit usage set off flares of unsustainability and in part causal of Trickle Down Economics and MOST DEFINATELY the political economy the likes of Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity, Savage and on the other side the media combatants. Divide and separate.
Progressives, same deal, lifestyle being unsustainable so social programs, take and give and thus sequestering huge swaths of voters whilst the other side told rural America see, they're taking from you giving to them! All the time the wealthy making money hand over fist. Whats super odd is both the supportive progressive citizens and those or rural America on the other side are STILL BELIEVING IT! Talk about indirection of mindsets! Blame each other whilst played to be fools and the cows sit back and go, "By all means... Keep it up!"
Now wasn't long back just few months that I learned of the immigration and plans thereof with Australia, Canada, UK, Germany and more. Canada is shooting for 2.5 million in the next three years whilst here we've made the border political currency just as you've said. My father used to say, "Be careful what you ask for you just might get it", along with, "Sheep follow the Shepherds whilst the Shepherds rule the farm."

I don't collect stamps but sell them...but as my listings grow I guess I do collect stamps.

I do get to unload at children's pop-up consignment sales three times a year - maybe try an additional outlet if you have things sitting too long?
10-02-2023 04:42 PM
No kidding! This is turning into massive stagflation.

I hear Ya! My storage room is getting more and more hard to walk into. But, we did some promotions and did fairly well last month. And people are starting to shop for Christmas. Hang in there.

There are too many I's and you's in that for me to understand the point you are trying to make.

You will likely be giving ebay the greater share of your earnings in the future.
I know this is not what you want, but it does appear to be the direction that ebay is going.
Good luck selling
10-02-2023 09:11 PM
I confused why one would keep buying and stockpiling when sales are down? Purchase less? Differently? Cherry pick only the best?
10-06-2023 10:15 AM
I am not selling anywhere! I am running 3 promotions, I get lots and lots of traffic, more than usual, but nobody buys and I am offering 33%! Ebay, keeps telling me to send offers but I can't since my promotion does not allow them to buy through offers. On the other hand, I sold a few things through offers when they would get a better deal using the code. LOL (That was a couple of weeks ago).
What is going on? Any ideas? I am sort of newish at this!

We have definitely seen a bad year of out flow, live sales of the season dropped 60% vs last year, started in the spring with people bailing out beginning of season one local guide stopped in to grab some luggage said no calls in 3 week's and usually booked for the whole summer off to another state..
And we pumped the brakes on buying probably close to 80% vs last year's purchase numbers.
Just keep on keeping on..

Some days I usually just end listings and relist as knew, sell similar...rather the running out of stuff to list, until I go sourcing again.

Resteraunts are full, national parks are full, i go to a rodeos around the SW and they are more packed now than before COVID. It isn't the economy.
