Just venting, may or may not be viewed as constructive

Three times in the last four weeks....

New message from:

It appears that I didn't read the entire description for this item or I would have realized that this was a 'jjjaghapj  rather than actual  jf;akfjafha'h.

Therefore I wish to return this item for a refund. I will pay the return postage.

Appreciate your agreement to this matter.

The first two times I just shrugged the return off as doing business.
But why doen't ebay make it manditory that people that buy things from
a phone do more than  " look at the purrty pichers ! ".

I find more phone users make errors 10x more than a pc user, even tho they
only make up 62 % of my buyers.
How can you blame a seller for returns when the doofus that makes the purchase doesn't even really know what he is buying .
There, rant over, carry on with your good work.
Where are my meds....

Hi,

I don't believe eBay 'blames' the seller.

I think eBay just wants buyers to be able to return items (within reason).

Buyers all across the internet, not just eBay, are expecting lenient return policies.

It's not going to get any better.

It's something we all will have to factor in.

Wellll... at least he's agreeing to eat the postage for the return. I think I would say that most don't.

Not arguing against you, really, but how would they accomplish that?

I totally agree that the smartphone users don't take the time to read the item description. I had a buyer who bought Ettore squeegee replacement rubber blades and I had several pictures one of which was a bulk box of  144 rubber 36" blades.  The listing was very specific in stating that the price was for one rubber blade either 12 or 18 inch blade.  He complained because he didn't get the box of 144 rubbers.  That box of blades retails for $780 and weighs 30 pounds.   One 36" blade sells for $20 with shipping. The price alone $5.95 should have been a clue but you can't account for stupidity.

It's important to identify possible misunderstandings regarding an item, and to place information that clarifies those things the very first thing in the item description. Like if I'm selling a brand that is easily mistaken for a more famous brand, I'd just put as the first sentence in the listing,

"This item is by NN brand, which is not the same as the more famous NNN brand the item imitates with a similar name, logo and design."

Probably not a good idea to have a photo of something not offered in the listing. I'd remove that particular photo ASAP. It's misleading, even though you obviously didn't mean it to be.

We try to make all listings stupid proof.
Buyers don't bother to read descriptions. They don't figure out meaning based on price.
So if we have a few item in the photo, or the photo shows a bulk case, we make sure the title is clear:
"choose your favorite figure" - So no. You are not getting all the figures in the photo, you pick which one of the series you want to purchase.
"(1) blind box with (1) blind figure" - You are not getting the full box of 36 blind boxes. Yo are getting 1 box.

Howdy towards2112.....

Just curious, how is it you know that mobile purchasers only make up 62% of your sales?  I don't recall seeing something on my order details page that states how they made their purchase?  Is there such info available and I just don't know about it?

Sorry for not offering a solution or something constructive to your issue... I doubt if there even is one.

But this is one of the reasons exactly why eBay needs to tell us the device the buyer used to purchase the item for all of our sales. That will also result in us knowing what device a buyer used that's linked to any returns. It will give us more info on patterns and trends. The data may help sellers adjust their business model to work better for them. We know ebay can find out that info, how's about selling the sellers know too?

Buy or not to buy that is the question

It's really the buyer's responsibility to make the right decision, if they don't want to bother taking the time to fully read the description & correctly evaluate the information they should be held accountable & suffer the consequences for their negligence.

It use to be in the monthly store newsletter. I don’t have a store anymore so don’t know if that info is still sent.
I’m a mobile user. When I see a bunch of run-on text, templates, fonts, colors, bold, caps etc. You would be correct in the fact I don’t read, but I will and do hit the back button.

Everyone has options. Just be sure the best option is right for you.

Until they get rid of those stupid peer return metrics they just invent stats on, then i consider them to be blaming the seller since the reason does not matter. Someone who admits to buyer's remorse counts against you all the same as if you screwed up yourself. It's all about eBay reaching into our pockets and inventing reasons to justify it.

The info is in the reports you can download from PayPal. Of course that only gives you the info based on how the payment is made but since the vast majority of payments are made immediately a mobile payment pretty much indicates a mobile purchase.
