oK I must be bored today (nothing selling, go figure!) and I'm noticing all these titles with spelling goofs and laughing my bleep off at some. Selvedge (I would think they mean salvage or selvege?) As if it's not hard enough to get things sold, I'm pretty sure no one will search a misspelled word but who knows? Maybe I'm wrong and that's why my stuff isn't selling.

I can't say this is a title boo boo but it certainly was a customer boo boo. Her name is Mrs Schmit. Guess what I noticed I had typed just after I hit the send............oops.

Um, er, there's no such word as "selvege".

"Selvedge" is an alternate (perhaps archaic) term for the woven finished edge on a length of fabric (now the standard spelling is selvage), or a specific denim feature. Levi's makes a line of jeans called "Selvedge":

My favorite classic is "bowel" in place of "bowl". There are 81 hits for "bowel" in the "Pottery and glass" category. You can buy mixing bowels, punch bowels, crystal bowels.

Selvedge is still used by those of us who were British born. Remember there are current variants in spelling if the seller is from England or Canada. I still never remember whether it's gray or grey.

Bowel is still my favorite.

It's very commonly used & definitely not an archaic term. Spend time around a person who knows anything about fabric and chances are the term will come up. I hear it regularly from people I know that sew. I learned that selvedge is derived from "self-edge".

I often will find misspellings in my own titles - because I'm typing too fast or the keyboard doesn't accept the key I push. Was researching a Ralph Lauren item today - misspelled it as Raplh and it had quite a few hits but not as many as I'd expected - until I realized the misspelling.

When I put the correct spelling in - not of the misspelled Ralph's came up which surprised me as I thought Cassinni would have recoginized Lauren. I used to have a link that checked on Ebay misspellings as you could often get good deals as no one else saw them!
