Item shipped first class / no tracking/ how will I get my payout?

I shipped an item days ago, and I'm fairly new at this and somehow the postage I sent the package with (it was like .7 oz) qualified for cheap postage and didn't come with a tracking number. How will I get proof it was delivered and get paid? Thanks in advance!

Guessing you chose first class letter rate instead of package rate.  Letter rate doesn't have tracking.....  Most of us did that when we started.  If the buyer doesn't claim not received, you'll be OK.......if they claim that, you have to refund.......

Make sure the order is marked as shipped. As dhbookds mentioned you should be OK as long as the buyer does not file or claim an INR. The only other potential problem would be if eBay is holding your funds, because you are a new seller, until the item is delivered. Without the tracking that would be difficult for eBay to confirm.

I don't see any high dollar items in your sold items so hopefully this is not a major issue and eBay will complete the payout.

Yes, often the default is 1st class letter. Make sure you select "package"  Then you'll get a tracking number w/ 1st class...remember, though...insurance is not included

And the cost for a USPS First Class package is also MUCH higher than just a USPS First Class stamp -- $3.37 vs 58 cents.

It is probably going to show up postage due or back at your house unless it was that pillowcase. I don't see anything else in your sold history that would qualify for a first class envelope rate.

As long as the item arrives and the buyer makes no claims to the contrary then you will get paid in the normal manner.  I ship some small inexpensive items by simple envelope with a stamp, items that are not yet eligible for the Ebay first class letter with "tracking".   I have never had any problems or lost letter.  Mind you that not having tracking will impact your Ebay status and may keep you from becoming a "top rated" seller.  But I am a small seller so my savings are greater than would be my savings as a "top rated" seller.

Without tracking, you can't prove it was delivered. That's usually not a problem for low cost, low scam items. All new sellers don't get paid right away. They have a hold for about 21 days. After the hold, the money will automatically transfer to the checking account you gave them when you signed up for managed payments. They will send you a message in eBay, letting you know the money transferred to your checking account. You can also go on your account to see how much you will be getting.

If no case is filed the funds will be released when  tracking shows delivered, or in 21 days if there's no tracking.

If the potential loss from an "item not received" case is negligible, I see only minor harm in shipping with just a USPS First Class stamp on an envelope.

Many of my smaller, least expensive items were received free, or for much less than $1.00 each.  Not a big deal.

The only significant harm is when eBay drops my dashboard percentage for "untracked" shipments.  Too many of those, and I'll lose my TRS rating!

Depends greatly on what it is. Before they had the tracked envelope my "Item not received" claim rate on Pokemon and Yugioh cards was around 10 percent and around 3 percent on Magic cards. However I never, ever, ever had a single claim on a sports card, vintage sports ticket or old magazine ad.

Once the tracked envelopes came out those rates fell to about 1 failure in 1000. Although for the first month or two after tracked envelopes came out I still had the high claim rates from the kiddy game cards, but they were all for cards that showed delivered and it seems like those guys all stopped trying after figuring out their scam did not work anymore.

If you are asking because you are wanting your funds released prior to the new seller hold period, you may be able to contact eBay once/if the buyer leaves positive feedback - worth a try, otherwise you just need to do as others have adivsed, hope the item arrives and that no claim is forthcoming and wait the time stipulated for release of funds.

If you are using Ebay's new standard letter, Ebay states that there is not a tracking number.  I have used several of these for mailing, and no problems.  The standard letter is very helpful, as postage is less that 1.00 and it gets first class treatment.  Previously, to even mail a postcard, etc., it required a first class label for over three dollars in cost.
