Hello -
I have had returns with item not as described and did not realize this was a bad thing if they said item not as described and that it hit your metrics. I offer a return full refund and didn't know that if you give them all the money back the reason they choose is important and pay attention. I have had several item not as described I have found out and it has hit my metrics for selling on ebay to really high. I have emailed ebay about the most recent one as it was clearly not true even when reading the customers note to me she states she thought they were like her old ones... but the description is the exact description the actual label/vendor uses so my item description was accurate. I reported buyer for claiming item not as described and have not heard back from ebay. I have even called and they said some were to late to change. So I guess my question is - what avenue do you take to stop the erroneous claim right away - I called ebay before and the gent said some are too old - i had to call within a time frame.. any answers?

Now you do. try to spend some time inspecting and describing the item, I have not had any INAD for a long time. One INAD is not bad, but multiples are. I may believe that the most recent one may have been untrue, what about the rest?

By not getting there in the first place, just describe your items as if you were the buyer, things should improve.

When you 'report' a buyer you will
a.) NEVER hear something back about it, it is NOT designed for you to EVER get any info back. It is designed so if 'other' sellers report, it will become more apparent to the site there is a problem with this buyer
b.) It does NOT ever 'help' you with a NAD. You still must approve, process and perform a refund or you will get 'double' dinged in your metrics (having a NAD coupled with 'Not Taking Care of your customer')
Once a buyer does it, all you can do is
a.) sigh
b.) report
c.) process

To cut down on "not as described" issues, always have clear bright pictures (front, back, sides, AND ANY FLAWS up close), and a description the states the size (measurements), material (glass, metal, leather, etc.) condition (anything that makes it not MINT or new).
The last one is particularly important. Always avoid terms like "good vintage condition" or "good condition for its age" or "see pics for condition". Avoid stock photos lifted from another website unless you have permission to use them.
When a buyer files an item not as described complaint, they count in your seller metrics JUST BECAUSE THEY WERE OPENED in the first place. They don't go away regardless of how you handle the situation. Even if you refund and let the buyer keep the item for free, it changes nothing.
I don't know if reporting the buyer has any effect on removal of any of these. You won't get your money back, even if the buyer is lying.
It is best to be proactive and do the best you can to present what you are selling accurately in the first place. Otherwise, returns be they phony or not is part of doing business here.

Don't use stock photos on used items.
Make sure the clothes are washed before listing.
