Item location different from described

It bothers me that a location can say Beverly Hills, CA but the item is shipped from Minnesota.  Isn't that a misrepresentation, i.e. LIE.  If it were in CA, I would receive it sooner, I would think.  Why does EBAY allow this to occur ?

Re: Item location different from described

Nope. Does not need to be an international seller. Could be here in the USA.  Here is the link to the actual words ebay uses to describe this situation:

https://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/item-location.html

If the item location is not where it is listed, AND the shipping takes longer than stated in the listing, then the buyer does not have to return the item, no matter where it came from.

My seller INSISTED on refunding my item, although I had indicated I would wait another couple of days for arrival. Then he took down additional listings for that same item.

The item arrived the next day, but he had already refunded my purchase, and since it was over the stated shipping time in the listing, I enjoyed my free item. Not a big purchase, just something I had to wait for to use an appliance missing a part.

The refund/dispute policies spell out the local mispresentation quite clearly.

If the item arrived within shipping time but there is a problem and needs to be returned, I believe eBay would support the buyer in refusing to ship to a different location than was listed on the original purchase.

Re: Item location different from described

I took 8 items with me  on a car trip from NC to AZ, all of them items not paid for within the 4 days requested in my listing.  I took them with me and shipped them along the way as payment came in.  I would stop at the nearest post office and send the package on its way.

So none of those 8 items were shipped from the LOCATION in the listing.

I guess I'm lucky none of those 8 buyers decided to complain that their item was shipped from a different state/zip code than the listing said.  In fact the last item was shipped from 1,900 miles further away and cost me over $10 more to mail than the buyer was charged.

What an awful seller I am.

Re: Item location different from described

I just reviewed the link you provided and it doesn't mention anything even close to what you state about keeping the item and receiving a refund, even if it's late. See below.

Policy overview

Sellers must be clear and accurate about the location their item will be shipped or picked up from. We don't allow false, inaccurate, vague, or misleading information about the location of an item in the Item location field or description. When listing items for sale, sellers are expected to provide the city, state and country of their item so shipping charges and delivery times can be accurately calculated and communicated to buyers.

Also, if there is a location stated in the item description, it has to match the location in the item location field.

Make sure your listing follows these guidelines. If it doesn't, it may be removed, and you may be subject to a range of other actions, including limits of your buying and selling privileges and suspension of your account.

What are the guidelines?

Allowed

Allowed

  • Accurate descriptions (the city and state or city and country match appropriately)

    • Hong Kong, China

    • Sydney, Australia

    • Omaha, Nebraska, United States

Not allowed

Not allowed

  • Giving an incorrect item location. For example, indicating that the item is in the U.S. when it is actually being shipped from China.

  • Inaccurate, vague, or misleading descriptions (the city and state or city and country don't match)

    • Beijing, United Kingdom

    • Hong Kong, United Kingdom

    • Worldwide, Singapore

    • Direct from manufacturer to, United States

    • Somewhere in Florida, United States

  • A location in the item description, if stated, that doesn't match the item location field.

  • Inconsistencies in return policy versus item location resulting in higher costs or confusion for buyers.

I have no idea where you came up with what you are inferring from that link or any others you may try to find.

It's simply not true.

I'm glad you mentioned this @city*satins as I was sitting here thinking if someone was selling something from one location and shipping from another, (assuming they were using Calculated Shipping and not a fixed shipping cost), they had to be getting burned on the postage/shipping a good lot of the time, so what is the upside which I obviously must be missing?

Re: Item location different from described

they are not always drop shipping if the actual seller is mailing their items for sale from a vacation location. Do you think that a seller should just cancel all open items sold that haven't been paid. The seller would get punished with big defects and still have to pay ebay fees. Give me a break. The seller is obviously being a conscientious sellers worrying about getting the items to their buyers.
