It's not just the new listing tool, it's a lousy text editor/html generator.

It is so tiresome to list anything. And it is not just because of the new listing tool(s) and item specifics. It's the lousy text editor/html generator .

I don't believe eBay wants us to use plain text for the benefit of our buyers. I think eBay has changed the text editor it uses and it just cannot handle any thing but plain text.

I'm so sick of choosing a font style or size only to have eBay garble it in messed up ways. EVERY TIME!

Editing to correct fonts just results in garbage. Even using plain Arial - which I hate - size will be garbled. Come on eBay, spend a buck to make a buck!

what do you mean size garbled?  some of it in 10, other letters in 14?

? I use the HTML editor and have no problems with it.  What are you trying to do and what is it doing instead?

I haven't used the new one (I list with SB), but they have a history with TERRIBLE text editors.  The one in TL was absolutely HORRENDOUS & I'm still dealing with results from it & the unbelievably bad HTML it generated.

@dhbookds  Yes, that exactly.

I type and format in the text editor, switch to the html editor to make sure the font tags are what I intend before listing. Once the listing is active, I see fonts other than what I coded.

@chapeau-noir  See my response above.

"I type and format in the text editor, switch to the html editor to make sure the font tags are what I intend before listing."

I want my description to be Microsoft sans serif 14 and 18 pt.

Boilerplate tag line and policies in Courier 12 and 10.

Invariably, even after checking the html tags, Random lines will be arial or courier. When I edit the listing to correct those lines other lines will be in the wrong fonts.

Are you saying you type into the html tab. Do you add tags. Or have a template with fonts?

I am just so sick of having to click on edit all or see more options to get the editor to even show up after yet another click confirming that I do want to make a change! Complete waste of my time on every listing just to change the font size or highlight text in a limited dull gamaut of colors

@mycheaperstuff  I have a very simple description template I wrote up with a little HTML - if you look at my listings you can see the setup.  I work from templates (stored templates) exclusively and have never had problems with fonts not carrying over.  My listings are pretty plain vanilla, though.   My written HTML is really rusty these days, but with your fonts being scrambled up I wonder if you  need to add a font face rule

You also might try writing your HTML in the actual listing page itself, and saving it as a template.  The biggest problem I had with writing up descriptions in word was the fonts and other conventions being overridden by eBay (that was in the old classic listing page).

But as I say, I'm pretty rusty.

I would type and format in the html editor.........I'm no tech guru but if you are adding the format, it just seems like that is where you should be......  At least try that and see what happens......

@chapeau-noir

   I cant remember where but i know you posted a few times about the item specifics stuttering or taking 2 clicks to load......   I listed about 22 items today to "get back on the horse" and i see what you mean. it is bizarre and i cannot think of any logical reason for it. Every time you click onto an IS, the whole section goes blank for about 3 seconds an then reloads. only then can you actually click into one to add or change.

     What the heck is going on out there in CA?   When they get hired... do they just have to "identify "as someone who knows how to do programming or do they actually need to have the experience and skill set to do it?

   Even after doing over twenty listings it did not get easier by getting used to it... the pain points are real and do not go away the more you use it.    I kept finding myself stumble over the same poorly designed issues listing after listing..... Half of them ended up not having "immediate payment" selected because its not there to select unless you search for it... its just crazy how much is missing or wrong with  the tool. All the clicking in and out of popup menus just makes for a disruptive experience that encourages mistakes

Yes, I suspect that eBay's HTML editor is having a problem with Word.  Writing everything in the description and then just saving it as a template creates consistency, particularly since not all fonts may be supported by eBay.

@siamjane8   I find listing to go pretty quickly, but I just wait for the IS's to disappear and then repopulate (and the page to stop jumping) - it just seems so clunky.

I'm having the exact same issues. If I click on an item specific, the page goes white. Sometimes the description is wiped away. Other times the IS doesn't stick, so I have to keep redoing it, and wasting time. Also, there are days when my photos won't load..just sit there spinning. It's such a pain to list anything, and it doesn't get better the more I use it. It gets so frustrating, I just walk away.

One thing I have found that might be helpful..if a listing is giving me lots of trouble, I save it as a draft - if I can..sometimes it doesn't let me. Then I open it as a draft a few seconds later, and for some reason it starts working as it should. It's so messed up, tho.
