It's 2022 C'mon Ebay Time to Go Back to the Future

I asked an ebay rep WHY buyers are allowed to message you after they've been blocked?

He had no answer.

You can block just about anyone on any platform except ebay.

If you can block a buyer from purchasing that should remove them from messaging you.

I've had my share of  potentially bad buyers over the years & I block them.

If the buyer continually messages you this is what I do:

1. I first block them so they cannot try to buy the very item you know is going to come back to haunt you.

(Yes I know they can buy it thru another account but your options are limited)

2. You cannot get into the cat n mouse game where they bait you & you reply again & again &...infact as I write this a buyer is doing exactly that.

I reply " This is the last message regarding this product or our conversation please do not reply all further replies will go unread & deleted."

3. Almost every time they will reply to see if they can get you to respond or sucker you in.  As I write this that very ebayer I mentioned is following the pattern. When they do, do not read the message. Delete it.

It's rare they'll persist but if they do report them to ebay they can read the messages sent by them in that buyers account.

Bottom line. DELETE.

Your life is greater than (some loser) on ebay.

You bring up a good point:  We know the block allows for an ongoing dialogue to continue, but what is eBay's definition of when that dialogue actually starts? When a member first messages you, or if/when you reply?

no he was not on my  hit list he was an antagonist you could tell he was just going to be a problem which inspired the post & as i said above he did EXACTLY what I said he'd do. when you block a buyer its because you DO NOT WANT THEM as a customer or a repeat customer & that should block them from messaging you

If other platforms can do it there's no reason ebay can't they just won't.

Re: It's 2022 C'mon Ebay Time to Go Back to the Future

as a follow up to my post the reason i send " This is the last message regarding this product or our conversation please do not reply all further replies will go unread & deleted." is to encourage them to stop but more often than not they don't & yes just delete as they continue, however the importance of sending that last message is strong because if they persist you can contact ebay especially on twitter on their FB business page, say you're being harassed & ebay does NOTHING to stop it. You have a buyer who is HARASSING you & it WILL end.

Well, it doesn't.

If it were an issue for me, I'd be tempted to stick to selling on those platforms that perform the way I prefer.

@pburn

Oh it's definitely if/when you reply - the block is disabled as soon as it becomes a 2-way conversation. I get so many impatient people (tbh, pretty sure they're kids) who will spam me with messages like "Hello", "R u there", etc. Yesterday I had one person send me 4 messages, minutes apart, that said only "Piggy".

If I reply once, then try to block later, it doesn't work. Now I don't reply at all - if they message me 2 or more times with ridiculous questions or statements that make zero sense, I block and never hear from them again. Not once have I ever received another message from someone I blocked this way.
