I received a message from someone who purchased an item from me that basically stated
I received your item but used the wrong credit card to pay for it. I would like you to get paid for this item so please message me back.
The thing is we opened and closed a UPI case for this item almost a month ago and never sent them anything obviously.

The whole thing sounds extremely sketchy, on a multitude of levels. I would consider it done and done, and have no further correspondence with this individual.

I messaged them letting them know we never shipped them anything as they never paid for anything. And reminded them we closed a UPI case against them a month ago.

Place them on your blocked bidder list.

Other than possibly a confirmation response of *oh yes, that's right* from your bidder, the best thing would be if you received no response. Please keep us apprised.

Related question. Is it possible for a buyer to file an INR for an item they haven't paid for and lost a UPI?
I know logically it's stupid, but I know "stupid" hasn't stopped ebay before.

There have been a few posts about that happening so yes, it's possible for them to open an inr but since there was no proof of payment they wouldn't be able to ask ebay to step in.

I think this answer was professional... it closed any unfinished business with that buyer. Good job!

Yes, the logic being that they could have paid via a non-eBay method such as mailing a money order, then been stiffed by receiving nothing in return.
However, they don't really have a leg to stand on with eBay, as there is no original transaction on the record to be rolled back, so they could file an INR, but it wouldn't really go anywhere, and the seller would not lose any funds.
