Is there any recourse for sellers?

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi,

To give some context, i listed a dishwasher for the first time, and set up the shipping label through ebay with UPS. The buyer informed me that the item was damaged in transit by UPS. I completed the form that was provided by ebay, but UPS never got back to me, and apparently declined liability. UPS would not discuss it with me since I didnt have an account with them tied to this order (which went through ebay). I contacted ebay customer service many many times and spoke with supervisor after supervisor who just gave me lip service. At this point, the buyer was refunded his entire amount and still has the dishwasher. To add insult to injury, ebay charged me directly for the shipping fee. The last thing I was promised by ebay was to do a manual review, which was supposed to be 7-10 business days, but it has not gone way beyond that. So, I am out the shipping fee (which was supposed to be paid by the buyer in the agreement). I am out a dishwasher as well, and customer service has been extraordinarily poor. All the documentation and correspondence is on record. It just seems that everything favors the buyer and sellers have no recourse. This has been a terrible experience for a first timer with ebay.

If the buyer filed a not as described case, and you didnt provide a return shipping label, Ebay will force the refund, and you wont get your item back. Then you deal with the UPS insurance..sorry, but you also got a major defect as a non responsive seller.

I am sorry this happened but you neede to have respnded to the case with a return label

ebays does nt care about insurance.................your buyer did not need it either

the reason you no longer have the dishwasher is becase it was not shipped back to you

many sellers lose the item while tryng to get UPS to do somehting

the MBG works like the clause in real estate.........."time is of the essence"

anyone can buy a refrigerator and claim its broken......its up to the seller to get it back if they want it

waiting on a response aboput insurance waisted valuable time

the buyer is not required to assist you in a claim but you are required to make a refund

When you start to Sell on eBay you need to Read all about How to Sell on eBay and the Rules of the game...

When a Buyer is Not Satisfied for any reason...you need to Tell him to Return the Item and quickly Print a Return Label that he can use to Send the item Back to you....by the Same method he received it....You Pay for the Label but you Get your Item Back....Otherwise.. if you do Not do that...eBay Refunds the Buyer everything...including the Shipping Costs....and he keeps the item...If the Buyer does Not Return the item within a certain amount of time..he does Not get a Refund...I am sorry this happened to you....

Under shipping, states "Local Pickup Only"

That was your protection, why step outside the comfort zone?

Sorry for your experience but you are not alone. New sellers are scam targets, especially with high priced items.   Rule #1 on ebay. Do not sell anything you can not afford to lose money on.   Even seasoned sellers are getting scammed in record numbers the past year. Just read around this board at the horror stories, then imagine how many do not post their stories.

Make sure you understand all the policies before selling more. Start with some low price items until you get the hang of it.

The op has local pick up or a shipping fee listed.

Then you deal with the UPS insurance

Just in general, I think that is sort of a problem if a seller uses eBay to purchase a label w/ UPS.  eBay is then the customer of UPS, and it is eBay that they require to file the claim.  As far as I know eBay won't do this.  I really hope I am wrong with this assumption, but I have noticed quite a few posts about this lately.

When you purchase UPS or Fedex through eBay, you lose your ability to deal with Fedex directly.

When you sell an item on eBay, you are risking the item itself, plus the cost of shipping it to the buyer (and back from the buyer, if you want a chance of getting the item returned). As the shipping cost increases, so does your risk

As a eBay seller I experience essentially zero returns and zero fraud. Despite this, I am still extremely risk-averse and generally do not sell anything that does not ship by USPS and does not put more than $5-$10 at risk (item cost plus shipping).

Is this @Anonymous what you did, and it failed?

If your parcel is damaged:

  1. Download and fill out the Damage Claim Form
  2. Email the completed Damage Claim Form to damageexceptiongroup@ups.com with the subject line "Customized eBay Claims Support".
  3. Once you submit your claim, a damage inspection will be conducted by UPS. If the result of the inspection determines the carrier is at fault, you'll receive notification with next steps to file for payment.

For all damage claims, the damaged item, packaging, and all contents must be retained until the claim is resolved.

That was my first thought as well.  I've scrapped many.  Dryers are a better scrap with all the change left behind.

It's the same with credit card chargebacks, eaby is the customer and they won't cooperate with the seller one bit in these regards.
