Is it fair to put someone's account on restriction when they haven't done anything to be on the restriction?

There's always a reason.
This site does NOT have to give you one.

What was their reason?
Some accounts get restricted if their account is associated with someone that got restricted.

I sold an item and not long after the buyer made a false claim, saying the item wasn't received. My account was put on restriction and I had to send in some documents to verify a few things. I complied fully with everything that I was asked to submit. There was a scanning issue with USPS and they could not scan the item in the system, they looked into it for me and that's what I was informed had happened. So because they couldn't scan it, the item would not show delivered in the system when looking up the tracking number. So USPS provided me documents to provide eBay showing the date and time of delivery, as well as the buyers signature as he had to sign for the package. I submitted all this information to eBay, along with all the other documents. eBay accepts these documents and removes the restriction from my account, but then turns around and puts a restriction back on my account that I can no longer sell on eBay indefinitely because of my selling activity being different. I haven't been able to do anything on my account because of the first restriction and as soon as they lift it they put the second one on there, so how is my selling habits changed? eBay has lied to me repeatedly over the past week, promising me this and that, and hasn't followed through with a single thing they have told me. I have done everything that I was asked, went above and beyond to get nessessary documents to show that the item I sold had been delivered. I have 6 children and this was how my money was going to be made, but eBay refuses to let me get my money, and has put the restriction on my account indefinitely, which means I have to wait 60-72 days to receive my payout. I have explained to eBay about needing to provide for my children, but they don't care. How is what they are doing right? I've done nothing wrong and I even proved that my buyer opened a false claim against me, yet nothing has been done to this buyer or his account. My account is the one they are keeping on restriction, I am the one going through all of this, and I'm the one who didn't do anything wrong! Provided everything needed, in a timely manner, but eBay considers me a risk to the community? I'm a little confused as to how this is okay, why they're doing this to me? If I had done something then okay, I'd accept that, but they are wrong for this!!!

Okay, here is what I'm thinking. You listed and sold a thousand dollar item. New sellers have a $500 listing limit, which you ignored. If it was alright your payment will be held 30 days because it's a high value item in a high risk category by a new seller. Triple whammy.
Did you sign up for managed payments before listing? Were you approved?
Probably you should be nervous if the buyer hasn't left feedback. Another reason eBay holds the payment is to keep it in case the buyer wants to return it. After 30 days they'll release the payment as long as there's no return case.

Is it right to have a restriction placed on your account for no reason?
eBay does not do things based on what you think is "right". They do things that they feel are in the best interests of eBay.
There is almost always a reason why a seller is given a restriction. The seller might not know the reason; eBay may not tell the seller the reason; and the seller might not like the reason. But there is almost always always a reason.

eBay restrictions are not always based on what a seller does. Sometimes they are based on what a seller does not do, and sometimes they are based on what has been done to the seller by others.

If this was/is your ring, why wouldn't your listing have show pictures of the actual item?
You "borrowed" the copyrighted pictures of the $5K ring from this jeweler's listing and ebay probably was correct in seeing red flags!

“[eBay] then turns around and puts a restriction back on my account that I can no longer sell on eBay indefinitely because of my selling activity being different...”
Can you elaborate on this? What do you mean by “different”?

I didn't borrow from anyone's listing let's get that straight. And the buyer got pictures of the ring as requested. You're just about as bad as eBay, didn't pay attention to nothing I said obviously!

I'm not sure what they meant by different, I haven't been able to do anything on my account since I made the first sale.

I did not know that but thank you for that! Reading this is making a lot of things make a little more sense.

Perhaps reach out to e-Bay CS on facebook and see if they can assist in sorting it out?
Send them a private message from the landing page with your user ID, email and a brief summary of what occurred. Good luck!

First of all, for a restriction to be placed on someone's account when they haven't done anything, shouldn't be allowed to happen. I don't know why I even bothered posting this because a lot of you are just as in ignorant as eBay! Obviously eBay doesn't do things based on what I think, it was a question to others to see how they would respond if it were them. But thank you for your insightful lecture!

There is always a reason for the restriction. Contact the Ebay for business reps on Facebook to see if they can provide you the reason.

Agree with you there were so many issues here. Easy to understand the first restriction but hard to say what the reason was for the permanent ban. Personally I would not worry about not having gotten feedback that seems to be dying amongst buyers. I am luck if I get 20% feedback from my sales these days.
If I was the seller I would be more worried about a possible return or scam. This is a high dollar high target item by a new seller and not something I personally would ever list on eBay as an experienced seller. There is also the potential for a chargeback for NAD which, depending on the buyers CC company can extend out as long as six months.
