Is it possible to purchase signature request & insurance before the item has been delivered ? usps

Hello fellow sellers.

I recently sold a bulk lot of ink cartridges to a buyer for $250. The buyer told me I didn't need to add signature service to the shipping because it was a safe location. The buyer used prioirty mail and lives in the same state as me ( about 30 miles away ). My bussiness partner told me I should always signature for all priority mail shipments over 100$.

Well my buyer came back and ordered a 2nd shipment of ink cartrides. The buyer then told me again , not to add signature request to the shipment since it was a safe location.  I informed him that we had to and that it was mandatory because of the item value ( I also purchased insurance ) .  I also said  I would cover the cost of the signature request for him for being such an awsome customer.

My question I guess is , Can I purchase signature service for the first order ? It hasn't been delivered yet.  Its actually due to be delivered later today. Any guidance and help here would be much appericated.

"No idea why its not showing up for you."

Because it's not there. It doesn't exist.

There is and it makes a green check mark appear, but I don't really know how to use it.

OP, each post to your thread would have on the lower left hand side of the post, a link that said, choose this as solution.  So it was there, but it goes away when you choose a solution.  You evidently chose your own OP as the solution when you needed to choose one of the posts on this thread.  And once you chose your own original post, that made all the choose this solution links on each post disappear.

No, actually I got the Solved checkmark as a reward for my post #12 (here), and also for my brooding manner and ruggedly-handsome good looks. So there. Smiley Happy The checkmark also appears next to the title of the original post, to indicate that there is a solution posted somewhere further down.

The 45.99 listing was for a quantity of 5. And the same person bought them all.

I'm sorry to add to this thread after it has already been solved ... apologies to OP ... but I did want to say that it is sometimes possible to add signature confirmation to a package if it hasn't been delivered yet. (It probably needs to not be Out for Delivery yet). According to USPS.com, anyway. I thought people might like to know that this is possible.

I know that OP doesn't need to add signature confirmation because the purchase was > $750, but the question was asked.

I have had a My USPS account for several years, now known as Informed Delivery that lets me know what items are being delivered to my address through USPS.  I knew that I was able to add Delivery Instructions (including adding Signature Confirmation) to packages that were being delivered to my address, so I thought that there was probably a way for the sender to add stuff to a package as well, if the recipient could add it.

I searched around on USPS.com, and there is a way to add Extra Services (including Signature Confirmation) as part of the Package Intercept service.

https://www.usps.com/manage/package-intercept.htm

  • Retail and commercial customers can also purchase additional services for the intercepted package, like Adult Signature Required, Adult Signature Restricted Delivery, Signature Confirmation, and Insurance.
    Add Insurance & Extra Services

The person who is requesting the Extra Services has to pay the cost for them. So, if you need to add Signature Confirmation to a package after it has been shipped, you could use the Package Intercept and have it held at the recipient's post office and add Signature Confirmation. It might even be possible to redirect it to the same address and add the Signature Confirmation.

Not all packages will be eligible, but it may be worth trying, if someone needs to do this in the future.

It also occurred to me that the Delivery Instructions mentioned above (with Informed Delivery) would be a good option to suggest for OPs who are having trouble with packages being stolen from their porch, or their apartment lobby.

False.   You can't add Signature Confirmation to a package that is being delivered to the buyer.

Re: Is it possible to purchase signature request & insurance before the item has been delivered

@sam9876, with all due respect, I think you need to read the rest of my post.

It is possible to add Signature Confirmation to a package that hasn't been delivered (or is not out for delivery) yet. Either the buyer (recipient) or the seller (sender) can do it. There are some restrictions, and the package has to be eligible for it.

If you have evidence that proves this is not possible, despite what USPS.com says, please provide it.
