Is it possible the post office delivered my customers package without updating the tracking?

I sold a relatively high priced item back on December 6th, priority mail. By the 8th, the tracking was updated to show that it was out for delivery, then nothing else for that day. The 9th shows a "awaiting delivery scan" at 1:45 am. Customer stated that they did not receive package yet, so I placed a missing mail request on the 21st which oddly got routed to Atlanta, GA, not anywhere near the destination address. I have heard absolutely nothing from that at all. The other day I was able to call direct to the post office that last had the package, they stated that there should have been no delays and that he thinks it was handed to the customer and the tracking was just simply not scanned at the destination for one reason or another.

In short, I have no delivery confirmation which would cover my butt. No way to know if the customer is lying that they didn't receive the package when indeed they did. What do you guys think?

Yes, if the carriers scanner malfunctions, runs out of battery life or if the scan doesn't go through it won't register.

Have you heard from the buyer since the 21st ?

Have they opened INR ?

I would not be doing anything if neither of the above has occured, they may have the parcel by now but I understand not wanting to ask them and poking the bear LOL

No INR yet. The 9th will be 30 days from the estimated delivery date. Can he still open INR after that?

My apologies, I guess I misunderstood you. Actually this has nothing to do with that cellphone but a much more expensive piece of computer hardware. I will claim insurance on it if I need to, but this customer has been really quiet as of late. Can the customer still place a INR after 30 days?

Not with eBay.  But still could open case with Paypal or do a credit card chargeback.

I am in this boat too, sold an item to a customer in TN, and on 1/26th is was "out for delivery", but immediately on 1/27 at around midnight it was marked "awaiting delivery scan...". It hasn't updated since. I reached out to the buyer, but no response. I've been searching for threads and answers about "awaiting delivery scan" and it brought me to these ebay community threads. I hoped it got delivered, but bugs me that without the USPS delivery scan, ebay will see it as 'not delivered'. 1/31 and January will come and go. I did leave feedback to the buyer, praying and crossing fingers that they did get it. I even paid for signature. Ugh...

File the insurance claim. If USPS can stall you long enough the window will close for doing so. Following are the timeframes in which you can file an insurance claim with USPS. If you shipped on 8 December you have about 4 business days left to file. After that you are out of luck with a claim with USPS. USPS is responsible for updating tracking and proving delivery their failure to do so is not your problem.

I have filed several claims with USPS and while they are slow to pay they eventually do Pay. Ironically they will not refund the shipping cost unless you apply additional pressure.

Re: Is it possible the post office delivered my customers package without updating the tracking?

I actually had a Postal clerk in a larger town of about 50,000 tell me that the postal service's scanners systems have been getting hacked!!

Whether it's true or not? Who knows?

But if you look at most of our tracking, it's absolutely bizarre..some of the stuff that's going on.

We've had numerous packages travel cross country to reach a destination only a "state" away.

It's only going to get worse with the postal service shipping merchandise for the government.

Buckle up!

Re: Is it possible the post office delivered my customers package without updating the tracking?

It's been nearly 2 months since it was supposed to be out for delivery. I would not contact the buyer or file a claim.

First, the buyer has to claim it wasn't delivered.  If they claim that then the PO will update the info to show delivered or they will pay if it was insured.

Getting back to why you don't  ask the buyer is I believe if it wasn't delivered they would've been asking for their item long before now.  Don't put a bee in their bonnet.  Leave it be. If the buyer asks then you get the wheels in motion.

Has anyone ever collected on this $100 "free" priority insurance. I tried to on a couple packages that according to the local USPS was destroyed in a truck fire but in order to collect I needed to submit pictures of the burnt up items. Spent a lot of time on this, never did collect.

As you can see from the replies, they are addressing the original poster, not your concern. You will get better replies if you post this question as a new thread.

Why on earth would you contact the buyer? If they aren't 100% honest, you are tempting them to file a claim for "Item not received" even if they did receive it. Do not contact them again. Let it be. You can be sure that if the item is really not delivered, the buyer will contact you about it.
