Is he trying to scam?

I had a buyer purchase an item for roughly $100. When he purchased the item, he left a message to make sure the item is delivered to a specific address. I thought it was odd but confirmed in the order details the address he mentioned was the exact address in the order details. The item was delivered and today I get a message from the buyer saying the item was not delivered to his address. I think it's a scam berceuse he is saying the item was delivered to Indianapolis instead of his city which is Speedway. I checked the address & Speedway seems to be a town or city in Indianapolis. I also tried looking up the address without a city and the only one that pops up is in Indianapolis. He sent me a screenshot of the tracking that shows Indianapolis instead of Speedway but I think he does this to fool you into refunding him. What's the best way to go about this? As far as I'm concerned the item was marked delivered to the address on file. He did not open a claim, he just messaged me saying I need to contact UPS & to refund him. What do you guys think?

It could be he has had other items go to the wrong place and that is why the message.  He needs to check with the shipper about it.     As long as you used the address eBay provided your covered with eBay.  Chargebacks  are another thing however.

Tell him to go to the PO and get the GPS for the delivered item.

The problem is there's only one address that pops up when you google it or go on google maps. And that address is in Indianapolis and literally right next to the word Speedway.

I think he's playing on the fact that when something gets delivered to him, it says Indianapolis & not Speedway, so he tries to make it seem like it was delivered incorrectly. Problem is there isn't another location with that same address & zip.

He did not open a claim, he just messaged me

You need not do anything until the buyer opens a claim.  If you sent it to the exact address eBay provided to you with the payment, you should have no worries once their is a delivery scan.

He is trying to scam you. He might have used Speedway in the past but USPS recognizes Indianapolis as the correct official address of the address he provided.

Go to the lookup tool on USPS and input the address. You can even leave off the apt number and the 4 digit code and it will auto correct to show their official address is Indianapolis and uses the same zip code. It shows you which 4 digit is the apt number.

eBay goes by the zip code. You would win.

I wouldn't respond or worry about it.

If the item was shipped to the address on the ebay shipping label, you're covered.

If the buyer files a INR (item not received) case, then deal with it.

Do nothing....do not answer emails. Just let buyer do whatever. Block buyer from future purchases.

You could reply to the buyer stating that you have checked, and that those addresses per USPS are one in the same.

Forgot to add that still respond to the case with the tracking number even though it's on eBay. Then ignore.

Okay so the conscientious seems to be just ignore him unless he files a INR, correct?

@alwaysthelowestprice

My ZIP Code is 55112, and I live in Arden Hills, Minnesota.

That same ZIP Code is used by New Brighton, Minnesota, which is right next door to Arden Hills.

And both Arden Hills and New Brighton are suburbs of St. Paul, Minnesota -- so some mail is also addressed to both to both cities as "St. Paul, MN 55112."

Your buyer is attempting to run a scam, based on the communal uses of a particular ZIP Code.  Do nothing unless the buyer opens up an INR case -- which you will WIN, anyway.

Even if the buyer filed a chargeback stating non delivery and the seller uploads tracking showing delivery the seller will win.

I won several such chargebacks like that.
