Is ebay manipulating tracking numbers??

I sold an item to Italy.  I used ebay international shipping to ship the item the next day on the 23rd of Nov 2021.   Around the 5th of January 2022 the buyer contacted me and said that he didn't receive his item. I asked him to be patient because according to ebay tracking it is at the Transit.  and the delivery date is Jan 9th.  Also showed that the item was received and cleared global shipping center in Kentucky, and additional transits with different dates after that. The transits looked more like:  PROCESSED 60160, Bagging 60160, cleared DHL distribution center, ... etc.

On Jan 10, 2022, the buyer opened a request: " Item not received" which was totally fine. I looked at the request details, and  eBay offered me the usual options, one of them is to update and provide tracking number, so I clicked on it, and I copied and pasted the tracking number that starts with ESUSXXX XXXXX... (eBay international shipping).  I contacted eBay and CS said: No worries, you are covered, if the item is not delivered in three days you open a case.  In three days, no change was made, so I opened a case, and asked eBay to step in.  Also called CS to find out about the whereabouts of my package. They said the same thing:  no worries you used eBay international shipping, so you are covered. Just an FYI: the buyer and I were very cordial, no problems at all.  I explained to him that I totally understand his situation. Later on, they closed the case in favor of the buyer, and eBay will not refund my money. I called eBay, they said don't worry we will contact the appeal office and refund the money. This is where it got interesting: I looked at the eBay tracking, and I find every detail was deleted, the only thing left is:  shipped on Jan 10th, the day when the case was open, and I updated the tracking number. I clicked on tacking details it shows only the tracking number provided on Jan 10th, everything else was deleted. Can someone shed some light on this matter about losing access to the tracking details? However, the case is closed, and I lost my money and the item.

I am wondering if someone can explain why the tracking details from the 23 NOV 2021 to Jan 10th were deleted

I'm confused.  First you said you used "international shipping" then later you mentioned GSP then later you mentioned "international shipping" again.   Which did you use?

Try tracking here: https://parcelsapp.com/en/carriers/easyship

Also, ebay international shipping supposed to have up to $100 insurance, so you can try that. There is no guarantee that you get your money back because the insurance partner is the cheapest for ebay and will do anything not to pay out no matter what tracking states.

Re: Is ebay manipulating tracking numbers??

Read carefully: OP stated Global Shipping center, not GPS - those are different things. OP used ebay international standard shipping and was very clear about it.

Covered as in you can file an insurance claim if it is never delivered. Nothing to do with the buyer's INR claim. You escalated that one it seems and that forced eBay to immediately make a decision, at that time there was no delivery scan so it's an automatic win for the buyer (and you probably got a defect for it).

Re: Is ebay manipulating tracking numbers??

I believe that @vogzen described the shipping method incorrectly and it was indeed GSP that was used.

In looking at completed listings, the seller ships worldwide but the country choice only offers US. That tells me that the package went to GSP center in Erlanger, KY.

And if that's the case, the seller isn't responsible for the possibly lost package. As long as it shows delivery to Kentucky, the OP is protected.

If you say so.

Re: Is ebay manipulating tracking numbers??

As another poster mentioned you can claim up to $100 insurance when you use eBay international.  There is a link to making a claim on the following page…

Re: Is ebay manipulating tracking numbers??

They used eBay international standard.  The op mentions that the package went to DHL and that the tracking numbers starts with ESUS.  Both of those are indications of EID.

Re: Is ebay manipulating tracking numbers??

Yes, they call it GSP.  and yes, I used to ship worldwide, but after this experience I decided not use GSP nor provide international shipping. Also, I am removing my expensive items next week, and sell them elsewhere. Honestly, I am very concerned. I don't believe this ebay money back guarantee anymore. I don't understand why they tempered with shipping date and deleted a month of tracking details. The ironic thing is that they updated the shipping date to the 10th of Jan 2022, while the buyer in his message the Jan 7th, 2022, said he waited too long, his item seemed not moving, and he contacted DHL.  Why the buyer will contact DHL if the item wasn't shipped yet. I never used DHL. I know it is a big deal in Europe. I asked ebay CS, if this issue is caused by a software glitch or it is done manually so they can put the blame at the buyer's feet and take the money? of course no answer.

Put the tracking number into this link, it's what i use bc it gives precise info, including the different tracking numbers that each shipping carrier uses that are related to ebay's tracking number >

https://parcelsapp.com/en

Also, here is the GSP link, which states, under 'Benefits of GSP' :

  • If an item is lost or broken during international shipping, eBay Money Back Guarantee cases will be resolved in your favour, and your seller performance standards won't be affected

Re: Is ebay manipulating tracking numbers??

Shipping to Italy should only be done with DHL or similar. In my case i sold a rather expensive object that got to Italy quickly, but there it sat awaiting processing for over a month. I got really stressed when the buyer opened an "INR" case, but thankfully tracking started to show progress only a few days after.

Lots of Italian buyers know about this and exploit it thanks to ebays entirely automated overly generous with other peoples money system where all they rely on is tracking information.

Re: Is ebay manipulating tracking numbers??

There are two ebay international shipping programs. One is called the global shipping progam (gsp) and the other one is called ebay international standard.  You've referred to both in your posts and they are both handled differently when an item gets lost in transit.

You sold a few things on Nov. 22 so I'm not sure which one you sent to Italy but none of those listing show that you use the global shipping program. They do show that you use international standard delivery which uses DHL and which has up to $100 in insurance. You will find a link to put in an insurance claim if you go to the page that I mentioned in post 8.

What is the item number?

Thank you!  I tried pointing that out earlier but someone else replied that the OP made it "clear". I chose not to argue.
