Is ebay changing the Global Shipping Program rules and not telling anybody?

I just sold an item in the Global Shipping Program for the first time in years due to a HUGE change in USPS international policy that nobody is talking about.

So instead of sending it to Erlanger KY distribution center, they tell me to ship it directly to the buyer now (in Canada) COMPLETELY BYPASSING THE ERLANGER DISTRIBUTION CENTER.

When I see these types of logistical changes that get swept under the rug by eBay (for YOU and ME to figure out) I can only think nothing good of this can happen to the seller, only the buyer and of course their enabler, ebay.

Now, even though the phone rep at ebay customer service couldnt tell me why it was being sent directly to the customer, he did say the the EBAY GLOBAL SHIPPING STANDARD DELIVERY option provides insurance... , but then also said something about refunding USPS the shipping money YOU paid for, so its not really coverage is it? Im so confused here and the actual people that make these rules (ebay) cant tell me ANYTHING? So how am I supposed to ship internationally now? USPS wont track international parcel to its destination as of last year so basically its a **bleep** shoot until ebay (A BLUE CHIP , PUBLICALLY TRADED COMPANY) can start giving me some straight answers... smoke and mirrors all day long I just gave up.

I swear im doing business with Organized Crime or better yet a Cartel...thats what this is starting to feel like.

Re: Is ebay changing the Global Shipping Program rules and not telling anybody?

I ship plenty of packages international and am familiar with all of the problems and the differences in the programs

My listing are set up to use international 1st class package service by USPS.only with edelcon service

the edelcon service is the best thing out there

the problems is countries like Spain.Italy.even some Scandanavian countries are in and out of the program

when the percentage of scanned packgaes are low they are kicked out of the program

8 months later they can be back in

when I print a label and it has no edelcon service or Expres symbol label then I cancel it and use EISD. had to do this with Switzerland just the othe day..........they have been dropped from the Edelcon program

you could try just shipping directly only to the Edelcon countries.thats what I do

good luck and keep on selling

Re: Is ebay changing the Global Shipping Program rules and not telling anybody?

well thats just the problem, its not even really on the radar...go to your post office, ask if standard international shipping  (the only real option to make a profit selling international on Feebay ) from the US. ... and they will tell you it was discontined around the holidays 2020. Now, if some Euro is wise to this, all they have to do is say "I didnt get it" and BOOM you are out the price of the item AND shipping so youd be basically paying Euro guy TWICE for nothing and ebay justy sits and enables it no questions asked. They dont even give a **bleep**, I just wish that one day they bring in a CEO that isnt a sshiesty, greedy as they normally are.

At this point you have to be a genuine POS to run ebay.

they tell me to ship it directly to the buyer

Who are "they"?

Also-- the eBay International Shipping Program has a really bad name among buyers in Canada.

Among other problems (mostly delivery) instead of paying import fees at purchase, we are being charged on delivery.

If your listing sells for more than $150* CDN( ~$120USD), your Canadian customer will be paying import fees and sales taxes on the doorstep. Which annoys and startles many people.

*On the bright side, that used to be $20CDN (~16USD) until the latest NAFTA treaty. It was those import fees that infuriated Canadian buyers , for complex reasons, but mostly financial.

@veritechsupply
And would never use GSP willingly again after I have learned ebay instructs their sorters in KY to open all GSP packages possibly damaging the merchandise.

NO.

This is a myth.

Think about it. How long does it take you to wrap a parcel?

Now how long would it take a wage earning employee to open, inspect, and rewrap every parcel passing on the conveyor belt.

Here in BC the minimum wage is 25c a MINUTE.  If it took 10 minutes to open, inspect and rewrap a parcel, that adds $2.50  to the employer's costs.

Think.

I agree that USPS first class international package gives the seller all the protection he needs for delivery and simplifies transit routes.

Ebay ISD is an eBay product that has nothing to do with the USPS so asking for it at the PO is useless.

There is no such USPS service as Standard International Shipping, maybe they thought you were referring to SURFACE International Shipping, which literally means slowboat to China and WAS phased out a couple of years ago.

Shipping internationally to e-delcon included countries through First Mail International or Priority International will give you a tracking number with delivery confirmation.

Re: Is ebay changing the Global Shipping Program rules and not telling anybody?

Just for the record, in case ebay staff actually reads our concerns, I don't use ebay's global shipping program.  Don't now, never have, never will.  The prices are much too high.  There are items internationally that I don't bid on, because the seller uses ebay global shipping.  Why would I want to pay over $30 shipping from Europe when other sellers do it for $16?  Why would I want to charge buyers ridiculous shipping costs?

USPS still has First Class International Package.

It is at the bottom of the list.

It includes tracking.

Don't know what you think your European sellers are using, but the GSP is only available to US and UK sellers.

It is a Seller Protection Program, meant to help sellers in the US or UK (only) who are nervous about shipping overseas. It also offers some protection against the"held at customs" scam since import fees are paid before the seller ships.

Re: Is ebay changing the Global Shipping Program rules and not telling anybody?

I was not aware eBay had a GSP anywhere other than the US. I use the GSP/GSC for the little bit of seller protection it provides. The GSP is basically an eBay ran, although contracted out, freight forwarder. The part I like is eBay actually sends the invoice and factors in the international leg of the shipping cost and updates the eBay order information with the international tracking information. Once the buyer pays I simply ship to the GSC in Kentucky and my responsibility for delivery is completed just like it is with any FF at least according to eBay policy. Of course nothing is going to protect you from a chargeback either INR or NAD. The one drawback with shipping to the GSC is I am limited on USPS first class to the domestic 16 ounce limit not the 4 pound limit for international first class.

How the cost compares to other FF's and what the buyer pays the FF to forward the item I have no idea. USPS also is not shipping to several countries at the moment. Most recently Australia and New Zealand. The GSP is not effected by the USPS suspension and is still shipping.
