The last month that I actually made some good money was in July or August. Since then, I might sell two or maybe three items a week, on a good week. And the good weeks are sometimes far in-between. I've tried listing things various different ways, lowering the prices, and all that. Still, items just sit there. Is anyone else having trouble just making a decent profit?

The holidays and beginning of the year were great. Now it's the dead of winter and slump time. Hopefully the beginning of the month brings more sales. I don't think the government shutdown helped matters at all.
I don't think it did, either, but take heart~tax refunds are on the horizon and people may be more in the mood to buy then. Just a thought!

My smartphone conked out on me back in December, and that is what I used to use to take photos. I've been trying to save money to buy a new phone, but no such luck as of yet.

Well, since I'm a book seller, then I guess that I'm SOL, huh?

I'm talking in retail terms of gross profit. Overall, when you total all of your sales together, are you making a profit of at least a hundred dollars a week? That, to me, is the bare minimum of a decent profit. That is the low end of my profit spectrum of what I consider to be a good week.

My phone died back in December, so I am using my lap top to take photos, and my lighting is basically natural lighting and a ceiling light at the moment. I've corrected a lot of the photos, but there is so much that I can do at this point.

Yes, you get what I am saying. I'm talking about "per month" here. I carefully select my items, doing a thorough search to find the most profitable items, and yet when I find a good priced item, those are the ones I find hardest to get sold.

Yeah, that automatic relisting thing ticks me off. Thanks a lot, eBay, for taking away my freedom of choice.

As long as you list it as a scholarly, fully annotated edition, and have the photos to back it up, eBay support, both on Facebook and Twitter, told me it was cool to list that book.
Also, I'm using a laptop to take the photos since my phone died, so I can't take myself fully out of the photos.

Yeah, with slow sales and eBay's final cut, I am making nil on here, except on rare occasions.

If you count the wear on the cover. I talk the disc itself. Also, I am using a laptop! I cannot remove myself. When I can afford a new bloody phone, then I shall be able to take photos without me in it, again. Until then, get over it.

If I could afford any smart phone, then I would buy it. That would require me to make a profit first of all...

My phone died and I cannot afford a new one. I'm using a laptop and doing the best I can.

I was just asking for business advice, not asinine "believe in yourself" nonsense. I can believe I can fly to my heart's content, but if I jump off the Empire State Building, then guess what is going to happen?

Hi, @bkhammobooks .
You could probably get a nice, used older Canon Powershot on here for around $20.
I paid $10 for one that came with the charger, three batteries, and an SD card to use as a backup camera.
Hope you are able to get a phone - for now, I'd just recommend trying to stand away from your laptop when taking photos so it doesn't get your face in the photo.
Or...maybe you want your face all over eBay. I am just telling you want I recommend.

Again, that would require me making a profit.
