Is There Something in the Water Cooler?

An awful lot of people seem to be leaving eBay today.  Has anyone else noticed this?

I tried 5 because people seemed interested & sold 1.  Removed the others a short time later.   Cheers!

It also seems to me that people who say they are leaving are just talk.  So many of them still have active listings.

Nope!  I could post mine for $50.  Get 2 views in a month & watch someone sell theirs for $250.

That's because the shipping from Canada would be $300.

USPS is MORE expensive with cross border shipping than our lousy PO.   I mailed a jacket to the US for $28 Cdn.  The buyer then returned it & it cost me $65 for postage!

Think a lot of people find that the grass is in fact NOT greener on the other side.

Other sites 'hold your money' if you are a new seller, some for quite a while.

Other sites 'always side with the buyer'

Other sites have 'scam buyers'.

Other sites charge 'insane fees for doing nothing'

Other sites 'hide your listing if you don't pay their sponsor fee'.

Just the reality of these e-commerce platforms.

 You forgot
Other sites get only a fraction of eBay's traffic level, therefore:
Other sites require you to spend absurd amounts of time promoting yourself on social media.

you can call it attrition, every week almost one thousand USA ebay sellers are going to die,its just a numbers game

one out of every 60 folks in the USA is an ebay seller and you have roughly 50,000 folks die in the USA every week

I love these heartfelt convos during the holidays. Makes me all warm and fuzzy inside 🥰

Yep,

Like I listed some stuff on that Mercari place and been there so long there's spider webs across the photos. 🤣

Hmmmm.  I'm confused.

That conflicts with numerous reports that the other platforms do well while ebay sucks.

Other e commerce sites suck just as much as Ebay (according to their members) especially the e commerce sites with community forums which are also full of sellers whining and complaining and threaten to leave daily.

Check out the AZ and Etsy community forums. It's even more hilarious and entertaining than the Ebay forums.

It's kind of like all the celebrities who have proclaimed for years that they are going to move to another country if a certain politician gets elected or another certain politician doesn't get elected or whatever their platform du jour is, but as far as I know, all of those celebrities are all stil here.  They just like to hear themselves talk.  Same with eBay.  All of these buyers/sellers could leave quietly and no one would know the difference but it makes them feel better to come on here and announce it for all to read.

More telling is a saved sellers list where at least half are no longer active.

They were some of the many who just pack it in and leave quietly with no announcements.
