Hi
A buyer contacted me throw eBay messages that he wanted to purchase an item from my store, and he wanted me to send him an invoice, and then he would pay. Can that be done?

Yes. Once the buyer commits to purchase, they can wait for an invoice from you before paying as long as you have not checked the "require immediate payment" box if it's a buy it now.

Some people insist on invoices for bookkeeping or tax purposes.

Just make sure the buyer isn't trying to message you and try to set up the sale outside of eBay.  This is a common scam.   They need to buy it now and pay.  You can enclose a packing slip/invoice in the package.

I believe once the buyer makes the purchase from your site, ebay automatically sends an invoice for payment.  Any other payment offers made outside the Ebay platform are more than likely a scam attempt that you should ignore and block.  Happy Sales!

Invoices are created when an item sells. eBay sends an invoice to the winner of the listing. 

It seems to me that this person is phishing for your email address or phone number. Keep in mind, it is a policy violation to exchange this personal contact information BEFORE the item sells. 

Scammers look for inexperienced sellers with expensive items for sale. Many new sellers don’t know how eBay works and get blinded by the thought of making a sale. 
Protect yourself by understanding how eBay works. The easiest way to learn about selling on eBay is to sell small inexpensive items while you learn. 

Your statement about items not qualifying for an Item Not as Described case tells how little you know.

Read about eBay’s Money Back Guarantee. Understand that once a case is opened, you WILL be refunding. Whether or not you get the item back will depend on how you chose to deal with that case.

You are a new and nexperienced and uninformed seller.  You are, therefore, the target of scammers, such as the one who contacted you about the invoice.

How do I, and the scammer, know that you haven't learned even the basics?   Not only from your lack of feedback, recent registration, and the like, but from your TOS  including this:  "THIS ITEM DOES NOT QUALIFY TO OPEN A DISPUTE CASE FOR "NOT AS DESCRIBED. REASON - PHOTOS ARE THE DESCRIPTION & ITEMS SOLD AS SHOWN."

Your personal TOS do not trump eBay policy.  Anyone who buys anything from you can open an INAD and will pretty much automatically win it.

I know I'm being harsh, but think of it as tough love.  You MUST educate yourself before going further or you will lose your inventory and your money, both.

There is no need for you to send an invoice.

The buyer can simply buy the item on eBay and pay for it.

You're considered a new seller because you haven't sold much in the last 6 months.  You're selling very high priced items and you have low feedback.  All makes you a target for scammers.

Ebay sends an invoice once the item is paid for, you don't need to do anything.  

It looks like your almost to the 'fake paid email' scam.  Don't do anything, if the buyer wants to buy, they will and if they don't, our suspicions are proven.

Just welcome them to buy and ebay will handle the invoice.  Keep everything on ebay.

Thank you. I wrote him through eBay messages that eBay manages payments and just wanted to know what he was about. I tend to trust people.

You can click on "Send An Invoice" under the Contact Buyer button, once he has purchased or made an offer on an item, and that will send him an invoice inside ebay.  Only communicate with him inside the ebay forum.  Do not call, text, or email him whatsoever.  If he's asking that, it's a scam.  It's been happening to me, because I allowed offers, and that does not require immediate payment, although I thought I was requiring immediate payment by putting it on the Buy It Now option.  This has happened to me before, so I'm slowly learning.  They totally waste your time because I believe you have to wait 5 days to see if they're going to pay before you can cancel their "purchase".
