Insertion Fee for Revising

Ebay has started charging me insertions fee whenever I revise an existing listing. I usually list items at a slightly higher price and lower it a little each month. I don't understand why this has just started happening now and how to get around it?!?

I chatted with someone at customer service. They said it was a mistake and the fees would be credited. They were never credited. They sent me a message asking me for feedback about the customer service experience. I gave negative feedback and explained the problem. The fees have still not been credited.

I'm not sure why this is happening to you but as far as getting around it, I think you can take advantage of the new auto price reduction feature:

@twobigfeet

I remember this happening to some sellers a few years back.  I'm sorry this is now happening to you.  You did the right thing about contacting Ebay, unfortunately it looks like you need to do it again.  When you talk with them, make sure you get a Ticket Number for the repair ticket so you can follow it if you want.  Clearly you need this problem fixed, not just your refunds.

On each Ebay page there is a link to contact Customer Service at the top of the page and again at the bottom of the page.

I would suggest that you contact Ebay for Business on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter for the better trained CSRs.

Here are your options for contacting Ebay Customer Service. Please be aware that for social media CS, you send them a Private Message and briefly explain what your problem or issue is. Feel free to leave your Name, address, phone number and/or your email address in this message. It is private and secure and it may help to speed up the response for you.

https://twitter.com/askebay

https://www.facebook.com/ebay

https://www.instagram.com/ebayforsellers/

Your options will be on the left. If you use the link below you can only get to the Automated Assistant or Chat box type AGENT in the box and hit enter. You will then get more options. Not all options are available 24/7. It will depend on staffing available. So sometimes you can request a call back and sometimes you can't. Sometimes you have the Chat option available and other times it won't me. If it is important to you to use one of those options, just try back later.

If you use a cell phone or other mobile device, you may need to turn off your Spam filter so that Ebay can call you.

If you are a seller outside of the US or Canada, you will need to use the Chat Option.

Re: Insertion Fee for Revising

@twobigfeet  I've been seeing quite a few reports of this happening over on the UK community as well, so my guess is it may be a technical issue.

devon@ebay  elizabeth@ebay  kyle@ebay  are there any current tickets open for this?

Re: Insertion Fee for Revising

Hi @twobigfeet . Most of the time this happens it's a display issue where it shows a fee when you go to revise, but that fee is not actually charged to your account. Can you check your Payments page to verify if you were actually charged fees for revising active listings? You can do a search by item number.

Hey @valueaddedresource! I do not see any open tickets for what OP is describing. I also echo what @wastingtime101 said and to double check the Payments page to verify  that they are actually being charged.

Re: Insertion Fee for Revising

@twobigfeet This isn't happening to me, but that doesn't mean it isn't happening to you.  However, you mention that you might update monthly.  Just wanted to make sure you weren't confusing the monthly roll-over insertion fee for fixed priced items with your monthly price revisions (which should not cause an insertion fee).   Just a thought ....

I was thinking the same thing due to the timing. We always see a bunch of confusion at the end of the month when sellers exceed their monthly free insertions with rollovers.

Re: Insertion Fee for Revising

Fees show up on 'Your Financial Summary' page. I think I'm really being charged. I tried to attach a snip but it wouldn't take it.

Re: Insertion Fee for Revising

I understand the difference between rollover and revising. I'm revising an item and being charged an insertion fee.

I've seen a bunch more reports since you first posted @twobigfeet .

File a tech report. The more people reporting, the higher priority the issue will get in the fix queue.

Chances are by Monday CS will have gotten a lot of reports and eBay will be on it, but since it only takes a minute you should go ahead and file a report.

On the website click the ? icon on the bottom right corner of almost any eBay page and that will trigger the option to file a tech report, submit feedback to eBay, and more. Screenshots here. If using the app, shake your phone to report.

Re: Insertion Fee for Revising

I just edited three items and was charged 35 cents for each edit. It states insertion fee but I still have 229 remaining items to list for free. Not only that, I am planning on making these items into an auction soon so I will be using up 3 more of my free item insertions. I still have listings to edit so I will no doubt be charged more. Last month too, I was charged for editing items and or charged a free insertion.

A negative $1.05 is showing in my total funds. It was $0 ten minutes ago

Skipping away to file the tech report.

Re: Insertion Fee for Revising

@twobigfeet

Just to clarify, you aren't listing in more than one category for these items, correct?  Or changing the category somehow?  I would check that to see.

@knnjamison

If you haven't already, you can create your own question thread about your situation.  It may be different than this one.   However to answer yours, it sounds like a category fee charge.  Are you using more than one category for your listings?  Every listing with a secondary category will charge 35 cents.  But usually not for editing.  Maybe if you change/add a category?  Not sure why else this is occurring.

Both of you have near and over 200 items listed.  That also doesn't take into account items sold.  While @knnjamison  stated they had over 200 slots available (are you running a store?), I don't know how many @twobigfeet  has left.

Re: Insertion Fee for Revising

Thank you for your response.

Minutes ago I edited two listings to reflect the recent postal rate changes.

- The listings are only being listed in one category.

- I have 224 free listings remaining

- I was charged 70 cents

- it also clearly stated that I would be charged the 35 cent insertion fee before I hit the revise button **

** Last month for the first time selling here I used up my 250 free insertions. I wonder if there is a possibility that my listings are still stuck in the previous month. Like my whole account was updated to reflect my 250 free insertions but my individual listings were not. Also, I wonder if this new auto price reduction feature has caused issues with editing items.

I cannot throw away my money just to revise my items. If eBay is looking to make extra money for revisions then this needs to be clearly explained to the sellers. And for what it’s worth, I am not interested in selling my items in a marketplace that charges their sellers to make revisions.

Did you VERIFY that you were actually charged that 70 cents?  You can do that by looking at your

Payment Summary page on the right side.

I believe you it is happening to you, but in the past when this has happened the sellers weren't actually charged the fees.  But if you are getting charged, then you need to contact Ebay and report the problem so that they can create a Fix ticket.  Make sure you get the number of the report so you can follow up as needed.  The more people that report this problem under that ticket number, the higher it goes on the priority list to be fixed.
