Insane Final Value Fee!

I am totally floored that people still use eBay with fees like that! 12.9%! Plus an additional 30 cents…for what!? They already charged you a whopping 12.9%! What a joke! I had to call to verify because I just couldn’t believe it. Thought it must’ve been a mistake. Nope 👎🏼

All of eBay's fees--all of them--are fully disclosed on help pages, Payment Terms of Service, and the User Agreement. No fees are hidden. No fees are secret. Every seller is--or should be--totally aware of the cost of selling on eBay.

That is the general final value fee percentage -- 12.9%.  Plus 30 cents per order.  Nothing new.
That fee percentage could be higher.  If you sell books, your total sale is subject to a 14.6% final value fee, plus 30 cents per order.  If you sell jewelry -- real or fake -- the final value fee percentage is 15%, plus 30 cents per order.

If you sell guitars, however, the final value fee is only 6%, plus 30 cents per order.

Maybe you should look into a different line of products to sell?

The seller fees are about identical to year 2011.

Before managed payments, sellers were paying 10% to eBay and 2.9% plus 30 cents to PayPal, so the current rate is about the same.  IIRC, the rate was set at 9% when eBay started charging FVF on the buyer's entire payment (including shipping) in 2011, then raised it to 10% in 2013.

You should experience the cost of maintaining a business in your own building. eBay's fees are upfront and actually reasonable.

No different than when you were paying the added Paypal fees.

Seriously? You read all the applicable fees that are clearly spelled out and actually phoned them up about it thinking there was a mistake?

Your feedback shows that you have not sold for over a year but how long ago was it that you actually listed your last item?

Ebay is a bargain...  Before the internet to sell anything on consignment the split would be 50/50 or less.

Here's why I don't mind the fees.

1. eBay collects tax for me. I wouldn't be able to do that on my own.

2. I get to list with lots of pictures which are free.

3. I get to sell to a much larger audience than I have here in rural NY.  Facebook doesn't even work well for me.

4. There's a cost to using all those servers and I appreciate that I can.

5. Do I like everything about ebay? No. But, on balance, I come out ahead.

this is one of the few things in life that have not gone up since 2012 or so.....

I believe it was 10% + 2.9% for PP for a total of 12.9% (most categories)

Lucky you checked it out before listing anything. We get some posters who come here after a sale to complain about the fees they paid and  the hold on their funds. What a nightmare for us to explain!

Amen.  Most people have no idea.  Mortgage, with all the associated costs.  Or rent, usually with triple-net if the location is at all desirable.  Utilities, usually at higher rates than residential.  Commercial insurance, including business interruption and liability.  Taxes, fees, and permits required by the state, county, and municipality.  Maintenance and repairs, whether you own or rent.  And every school, athletic association, and nonprofit within a 50-mile radius with its hand out, convinced your gross is your net and that you will support their worthy causes.   (Not that many ever return the favor by shopping in your store, mind you.)  And that's the short list.  😄

My consignment customers come in at about 40% before I hit their net with 20% for income tax.

To the OP: Amazon fees start at 15%

OP never said eBay was hiding the fees. They said the fees were too GD high, and most of us agree with the OP on that issue. So, while we're all AWARE of the exorbitant fees, we are still outraged by them. Get it?
