Increase in Canadian Sales!

Not sure what happened the last few months, but I had an increase in sales to Canada!  Anyone else?  And thank you to all those buyers.....

Increase in Canadian Sales!

My guess is the trickle down aftermath of the postal strike ending? I don't really pay much attention to where my buyers are anymore.

I don't know about the past few months, But i could understand a current surge due to tariffs kicking in, Be thankful to get them while you can.

One person in the US had increased sales in used clothing to Canada months before any tariff changes... and that sounds like they are working?

I think it is more that Canadians see media reports (see below) that prices are going up so they are getting stuff before it happens. Being closer to the border/lower shipping costs likely help.

Might be a little premature with that.

I suspect it's more the usual search effect of one sale raising exposure in the same cohort. I've had that happen with US destinations - I sell one item to Texas or Florida and another one or two follow.

In Canada there's tariffs on American goods (significantly food). I went grocery shopping today. No USA produce anywhere. We buy oranges from South Africa now. The store is advertising where everything comes from, and from what I hear from friends who work there, the customers don't want any USA goods.

I can't afford to pick and choose, if it costs too much, I don't buy. If the price is good, I buy it. There are news articles about how it's too expensive for some to be boycotting USA goods (and apparently people were stocking up on US Bourbon before it got pulled from the shelves at the liquor store).

Anyway that's what's happening on my side of the border.

Good point @estate_echoes

I agree but not all up there are too concerned about them. (varies from city to city) Housing and food prices have been issues in some Canadian cities well before the tariffs were even mentioned. I would agree that some movement (sales) is to get ahead of the tariffs. Some of the panic is just also because their system has been under pressure for years. Hopefully the repeal of the Carbon Tax will offer some relief for those who need it. I do sell Canadian products (guitars) but i have stocked up on used inventory knowing this was coming. Being prepared can yield results even if the situation seems dire. YMMV

Regardless, i think we all should celebrate when someone is having good sales. 👍

Personally, I don't rely on Canada for sales or blame them for any of my problems, but I do understand some are over leveraged.  There will be opportunities during these times and folks should be looking for them. Staying in your comfort zone (sales strategies) is a way to get lost. IMHO

How has shipping been for you? I remember it being crazy for you for a while trying to figure out what to do. That de minimis permanent or expected to change.?

How does previous high food/living prices make one not concern about prices going higher? Interesting to note that those same prices are even higher in the US. Very smart to think ahead and stock up. We see a lot of complaining, but I have a feeling a lot of people aren't taking your initiative and preparing. Who knows what will actually happen, but what you did basically didnt cost you anything in the long run, but as you said, could turn out to be a lucrative decision.

And yes, celebrate the good sales! Its a reminder that everyone complains about low/slow sales and hardly anyone posts when they are having a good run.

De minimis exists for now, but that's supposed to change as soon as they hire more customs officers. Right now I can ship with Stallion Express and get my packages across due to de minimis.

I am happy to be able to continue to sell to the US. I do sell a lot of Canadian and British goods, but there are US collectors for such things and from what I hear these items are much less common on the US side of the border.

It is hard to prepare, here in the US.  We don't know from one day to the next which food prices might go crazy on us.  And many of those that are at risk are perishables, so difficult to stock up on them.

If a time comes that we can peg some specific non perishable products that are going to get huge price increases, I would absolutely stock up on what I can.

Yes we are putting in a large garden this year. We didn't bother the last couple but best to be prepared.

T-bones and rib roasts have been going on sale here where I live $8.99 to $9.99) for the last year or so at our local rural store (local source I assume). Not even Wally World can compete with that and the quality is better by far. I cut my own steaks from the rib roasts and have them cut the T-bones thick for me. Foodsaver to the rescue....

I rearranged the freezers today and wow......Happy camper and stocked up for quite awhile. I do expect the price of beef to increase even here in the rural N.W.
