Including a picture of yourself in description - against policy?

The title says it all.  Including a basic picture of yourself in every item description, is this against policy in any way? What are your thoughts on this to inspire buyer confidence?

It really depends on what the item is. Personally speaking...as a woman I like to see the way clothes (shoes, accessories,  jewelry, etc) look on a real person as long as everything is presentable (no chipped nail polish, stubble on legs, dry cracking skin, etc). Sure beats seeing items spread out on the floor, especially in the bathroom next to a nasty looking toilet (ewww). Mannequins work well, too.

I have no need/desire to see a photo of anyone in a listing that I am purchasing from.

I don't even want to see your hand holding the item.

It would inspire no confidence in my purchase to see a picture of anything other than the item being sold.  I could download a photo of anyone from the interweb, and post it in a listing.  It would mean nothing. Photo does not equal honesty/trust.

Oops... meant to say:

I don't want to see

typed and posted too fast

Can't read my own post. 1st post was correct as written. I need a nap.

Not so good.

And be careful photographing shiny teapots.  (Anyone remember that?)

List more, sell more. Goodwill that other, uh, stuff.

Feeling sleepy? There's an app for that.

I agree with this. When I was shopping for a new purse, I had to search google for images of real women carrying the bags. Measurements are helpful but I wanted to know see the bag on a real person so I could get a better idea of the size. And how it looks hanging off a shoulder or across the body.

That answers that, then!

There used to be a seller man who wore some pink fairy outfit with a wand (or something along those lines).  He had incredible sales.

He must use that as his avatar because I saw a thread by him recently.

@richard1rst yes I agree with you, some items work best on a model but the way I took the OP question was they're thinking about putting a picture of themself in the description area of the listing sans product.

A thing to remember about using the image of a recognizable person in an advertisement is that they require written model releases be kept on file in the event the person sues claiming that you used it without their permission.  Even if you are the recognizable person, remember that eBay has granted themselves the non-exclusive rights to use any material that you upload to the site.

I'll take pictures of myself with a camera I'm selling or using a large item like a canoe.

I think it's hilarious.

Once sold a fur coat, customer said the sole reason they bought it was how it nearly identiacally matched my beard in color...and they wanted to replicate the same look.

I think there was a thread here about her around 6 or 7 years ago?

She was from the West of SouthWest.. and they sold rocks,

like big geodes and other stuff that the rockhounds buy.

Turns out that that was no "accident".  It's called reflecto-porn.   Seriously.

Oh My!  Conflicting opinions.

Clothes sell better if not laid flat or on a hanger.

yet

EeW!  I don't wanna see used clothes on a person as I might get their dead skins cells.

or

I don't wanna see it on a dress form or manequin as I wanna see how it hangs off of a real person.

I guess tastes differ and one can't please every option.

I can stand them laid flat, but not on a floor or carpet.  Regardless of the surface, most sellers can't get enough height above the garment to show it properly, so the nearest end appears much larger than the far end - the net result is that you end up with a seller's portfolio looking like the aftermath of The Rapture.

There used to be a large seller of animal and related books who had pretty girls photographed holding the books.

Haven't noticed them selling here in some time though. I wonder if paying the models cut into profits.

She's still selling.  Just not on eBay - only on their own website.

Same product placement in the photos.  Looks like she is now wearing higher neckline tops in some of the pics though.
