Impossible requirement for lifting restriction

I've been battling eBay for a 2 months now over a restricted account.  They constantly move the target.  Here is the latest requirement (see attached image)

They are requiring proof of purchase documents for items sold.  The items I'm selling are mostly coins collected from years and years ago.  Any record of those purchases are long gone if there ever even was any.  What am I to do?

Re: Impossible requirement for lifting restriction

Yeah, got a response today from eBay.  Looks like they are continuing to demand that I produce purchase documentation that I don't have.  Is this really the end of the road?  I have to just leave $5,000 in eBay's pockets?

We're literally at a stalemate here.  I understand they have automation that looks at all this stuff and determines that someone might be a scammer.  Obviously paper (or a webpage) will hold still for me to type anything into it, so words are just words, but assume for a moment that I am perfectly honest, what are my options now?  I do not have any record of purchasing the items that I have sold.  I don't know magic, I can't create them out of thin air.  Is there some sort of time period like after 5 years of no other bad behavior they will release the funds?  I'm having trouble grasping reality here that the money is gone, just as if a thief had come into my home and stole the coins.

@scotgiesbrech9

I believe Ebay will release those funds after several months and those funds will go to your states unclaimed property/funds/what ever /department  You can have it released with proper and current ID.  Sorry for your situation.

All the best.

Can you clarify what you mean by the last part, "You can have it released with proper and current ID"?

Depends on the laws of the state the seller is located in.  My state is 3 years.  A ridiculous amount of time IMHO.

Re: Impossible requirement for lifting restriction

So if Ebay holds this money for months and then turns it over to the the seller's state,  the seller is still going to get a 1099 that reflects this 5000 dollars and he /she is supposed to pay taxes on that money that he /she never had?   That seems wrong.   Lots of people can not produce receipts for items that they inherited years ago.

They meant to claim the funds from your state once Ebay submits it, if that is what will happen here.

Re: Impossible requirement for lifting restriction

Yeah this is really raw.  We won't be doing any more business on eBay after this, not that that will make any difference at all, but it's just not worth the risk.

It appears like we can either wait for the funds to go to the state or we can have a lawyer send a letter to eBay's legal team.  I have a feeling that would release the funds but not really excited about that.  I don't imagine working with a lawyer is near as fun as it appears to be on TV.

Re: Impossible requirement for lifting restriction

We're in California but not sure what category it would fall in.  So either 3 years or 1 year looks like.

After reading your other thread, you really have to figure out some basics before you sell anything else.

You had a significant number of shipping problems and issues entering correct tracking numbers on transactions. You'll face problems no matter where you sell if you don't get some basic shipping and record keeping worked out.

Re: Impossible requirement for lifting restriction

At this point I only care about one thing.  That is getting the $5,000 to me.  We're done selling on eBay.  They can have my account.

Would there be a problem providing a current picture ID?

I believe they said they have already done that but Ebay wants proof of purchase too.

Re: Impossible requirement for lifting restriction

eBay sent me a message saying my restrictions have been lifted why is it that I can't sell if my restrictions have been lifted I can't talk to anybody because nobody will talk to me it's so aggravated and it makes it impossible to sell when you have several people telling you one thing and several people telling you something else I have the email saved where they sent it to me say in my restrictions have been lifted and they said happy selling but yet when I go to cell it says I reached my limit
