If you think sellers are upset about GTC now, wait until the April invoices are sent out!!!

When Ebay sends out the April invoices to sellers the stool is really gonna hit the fan. When casual sellers and those not paying attention to this nightmare realize they are being charged listing fees for items they don't want listed/relisted Ebay better hire a lot more reps.  If they feel they are be inundated with calls now they haven't seen anything. I  feel for those sellers who have tried to call Ebay. I've called four times now about this topic. Each time I get more and more frustrated.  If you think talking to a Rep is fun, ask to speak to a supervisor and you'll ready get a pounding headache. I've racked my brain over the last few weeks (like many of you apparently) trying to figure out Ebay's rationale/motive in this decision.  Is it as apparent as it appears? Just a simple money grab designed to have sellers pay repeatedly for postings they don't want relisted once their free monthly allotment is used or is it something more?  Does Ebay want small seller to purchase stores?  Does Ebay want current store owners to use more auctions or purchase bigger stores? Does Ebay actually want to get rid of  a lot of the small/mid size sellers?  I'm not sure but someone from "Upper Management" Ebay needs to get out in front of this and make a statement sometime very soon about ending this GTC disaster before more damage is done and things get considerably worse.

But when you list an item you see a notification that there is change to GTC. Also, when you going to the listing page you see what item currently is ended soon, so you can deactivate it if you don't want to relist. I was thinking that changes don't so bad as it looks like. we will see...

Yeah. This GTC causes a real juggling act for a lot of sellers.  With my premium store I get 1,000 so called "free fixed price postings" (which are now GTC).  Every day  now with this change I've got to determine how many GTCs I need to cancel (on the 29 1/2) day, how many new items I can list and also how many items in my inventory that are approaching 90 day that I'll need to relist before the posting disappears from my inventory.  Oh course I've also got my 500 so called "free auctions" I can use each month. Last month for the buy it now fee in my "free auctions", I paid an additional $70.  So my monthly membership fee went from $60 to $130 if you include the buy now fee in my "free auctions".  No one has the time to each day to check which GTC are ending.  I guess that's what Ebay is counting on.  No matter if you're a very small seller without a store, or if you have a basic store or if you have a premium store this affects everyone.  Why doesn't Ebay focus on making Ebay a better selling platform and attracting new buyers instead of hitting sellers with more and more fees and restrictions. Help sellers sell more and it would be a win/win for everbody.

I'm finding it hard to understand why eBay does not see or understand what we are talking about with all our concerns on how GTC will affect us as store sellers.

I have sold on eBay since 2001. It changes all the time with now policy and rules for sellers. One thing that I have learned is that you have to make this work for you. In the time it takes for someone to complain about it, time is wasted and could be used to find better ways to promote listings and draw buyers. Post on social media, spread the word about your items, and improve your listings. Just being a eBay seller does not gaurentee that you will make sales. You have to do it yourself.

Re: If you think sellers are upset about GTC now, wait until the April invoices are sent out!!!

"No one has the time to each day to check which GTC are ending."  In less than one minute I sorted my store listings by ending time and could see the current days auctions closing the next day etc...  For the record I used to run over 1900 auctions at the same time.  Now I am running between 400 and 800 while I get used to the new GTC policy.

What we do about this new policy is more important than complaining.  I vented over the past two weeks and stopped all purchases in my epay group for two months.  That's several dozen sellers who are not buying on epay.

Now my focus is going to be on combining products into larger groups and using less than half of my fixed price listing every month.  So I will avoid automatic relisting fees while adjusting to the policy.  In July I plan on downsizing my store from a premium to a month to month basic store and dropping about six product lines I used to list for my customer's enjoyment.

Again, this is manageable.  You can search your store by ending soonest and spot the GTC items that you feel need attention.  Just list a few or a dozen each day across the month and you should not get overwhelmed.

Good luck.

I believe finding buyers is why we pay eBay all of those fee's!

Re: If you think sellers are upset about GTC now, wait until the April invoices are sent out!!!

When you list over a hundred items at any given time, it COSTS A LOT of time (time IS MONEY) to monitor each individual listing in order to manually end each listing individually just in the nick of time.

Manually ending each individual listing a close as possible to its "scheduled by eBay" ending date/time is ESSENTIAL in order to allow each listing to remain "live" as long as possible to increase its chances of becoming a sale.

This is a lose-lose for the Seller. Either:

1) the Seller loses money by NOT monitoring & manually ending each listing, causing unwanted relist costs imposed by eBay, OR

2) the Seller loses money as explained above in the extensive extra time and labor now required to do business on eBay.

THIS. SUCKS.

Hi, I had planned to list a few every so many days. But, then I get the free 100 listings & you have to use the 50 or they will not be good, before you use your free 100 listings. Now, I will not have any listing for the last to weeks that will be free.

@gotoguys2000   You may have gotten your months wrong ... the GTC mandate went in to effect March 18 BUT any FP listing prior to that simple ended as normal ... they did not automatically Relist as GTC ... if Sellers went to list late in the month they would have gotten the notice about GTC and I "hope" understood if they Relisted the item will relist again in 30 days.  As long as they were NOT already over their monthly allotments they would be fine for a long time unless they listed EARLY this month (Apr) ... The time to AVOID listing is early in any month, April had a bunch of days this first week that would incur Double Relisting but not until May being the first month that it would happen ... after that July, Aug, Oct, Dec, Jan, etc.

I've been using GTC since 2012 and I don't pay any attention to when they are going to relist, I just let them run.

I stay under my limit and only list a couple items a day through the month and never been hit with listing fee's.

Don't list everything at one time, spread them out, that way you have new listings and ones that are ending all the time.

Have a great day.
