Did you mean:

If it says "in transit, arriving late" then it's arriving late.

Don't complain that it didn't get delivered in three days like all your other packages (someone who is arguing with me there's no delays with mail). It says "in transit, arriving late". That means it's arriving late. That means it won't arrive in three days. That means you need to be patient and wait for it to arrive.

I don't promise delivery time and for the most part my coins have been delivered pretty quickly. Why is it the one time a package is a few days late I need to receive 15 messages a day from the buyer asking me to do something about it? I responded that it's in USPS hands, all they can do is just wait for it to be delivered.

If it says "in transit, arriving late" then it's arriving late.

Actually if it says "in transit" anything that means it hasn't been scanned in at least 24 hours and they're posting something to try to reassure you it's actually moving.  It may not be moving.

I don't know, tell the buyer you're not Wal-mart and not being paid to hold their hand and wipe their nose, they just have to wait for the USPS to do it's job and the USPS is seeing delays right now due to some recent changes.

People are always in a rush, but are too dumb or cheap to pay for the speed they think they need.

This particular buyer called the USPS delays a bunch of hype that's posted everywhere and really "means nothing". I BBL'd after the note today. (I'm not quick to block, but causing me stress while I'm at my paying job by throwing a tantrum about a package that has only been in transit for 5 days is unacceptable).

I went to USPS site and requested updated to my phone. I don't know if that does much, but it will tell me if the parcel is moving (when there are updates for real, not just in transit ones).

I think what frustrates me most is that it's always the picky annoying buyer when something abnormal happens, like every single time. I surmise this is because normal buyers don't contact me about their package being a few days later so I would never notice. At some point I go to the paid section of my eBay and go through archiving stuff that shows as delivered to clean things up a bit.

Well you can reassure them you are looking into it , and although there is a slow down it should arrive.. then go to usps and file a online help request form . then a Missing mail search request. It works and helps. Let the buyer know you are looking into it. I have been doing this to my incoming and out going mail Because some sellers just don't( i did try something this week. I insured all my first class packages going out and all 4 arrived on time even to New York if anyone wants to try that.) Yes it cost me out of pocket .... Was so worth it!

Delays are real, I had one take 7 days coast to coast and another took some extra time in Chicago enroute to I forget where in the midwest.

The buyer is totally pestering me several times a day about the package. I did the missing mail thing on USPS (not sure if it will help, but the idea was to be "doing something"). I've got it set up to send texts to my phone when there are updates.

I told him when he's allowed to file an INR, just go ahead and do that. I realize the premature INR is a big problem, but I do believe it's another 10 days before he can file one and I'm hopeful it will at least be moving by then.

He can file an INR at the latest possible arrival date ebay gave him.  If that date hasnt arrived yet, I would note to the buyer that it is not late until that date has passed.

I've had one complain Monday because they haven't received the item they ordered exactly a week ago...the package was only two days late. I took the time to send them a very detailed message...heard nothing back from them....and then noticed they went to USPS & filed a PACKAGE RESEARCH CASE. I'm not even gonna worry about them. Ebay told me as long as I did my part & got the package in the mail, I'm covered. If they leave negative feedback about it being late, I'll get ebay to remove it because I shipped the same day they purchased. It's always the ones that are a day or two late that want to complain. I even left them this link to help them understand why mail is shipping lower.

That's the exact thing I've been doing & to my surprise have been getting more positive results back from sellers than negatives. I also share this link with them because it's not just effecting ebay mail. It's effecting mail everywhere.

Remember it's a carrier issue. You did your part, so ebay should have your back on this. They told me I was covered. Also, I spent a lot of time on my replies to my customers, so if you'd like I can always send it to you. Just send me a message & I'll send you the reply I'm giving people.

I'm OK with my messages, I think. I was a lot less peeved this morning when I sent the buyer a note (after ignoring him last night). He's not understanding the process even though he's been on eBay a long time.

I didn't want to have to BBL, but IMO this guy is taking way too much of my time over a $25 purchase. My time is better spent taking pictures, doing listings, assembling stamp lots... not seething in anger about an unreasonable buyer. All the jumping up and down about how the package hasn't been scanned in a few days interfered with my work day while I was trying to get work done before my work day was over, but I had to stay an extra hour because of all the wasted time replying to messages (and calming down).

I told him if he's bugged about the package being late, go file an INR. I know he can't for another week, and I don't need to refund until the INR is filed. If there's movement at that point, I can put a hold on it. The buyer told me that after it reaches this sort centre, he gets it soon after, so it's almost at the end of it's journey, it just needs to go out for delivery.

My partner said that sort centres across the US for USPS are a complete mess, and the issues move around, so we don't always know where there's an issue. (We know some that are frequently a problem, but I cannot predict when a buyer makes a purchase if it will travel through a congested pathway in the mail system).

Bless your heart. I went through something very similar last Christmas. Another SELLER bought a set of books from me for her mother. They didn't arrive until two days after Christmas. That woman wreaked havoc on me. I refunded her money & even sent out a new set, plus gave her updates on the first set of books. It seemed like everytime I'd message her, she'd get more & more **bleep** off over $13.85. I worried myself sick over it. I couldn't enjoy Christmas because she was constantly messaging me. I even brought it to her attention that she was a seller too & should understand that once I shipped it, it was out of my hands. After I'd refunded her money & sent her a new set of books, plus let her keep the ones on the way (which she was never once appreciated)...ebay informed me that I didn't have to do any of that & told me they would've removed the negative if she would had left one. They told me I did my part & got it in the mail. Since then, I'm not so quick to bend over backwards. I'm very nice to people, but there are some people in this world that are going to be miserable no matter what. On a funny note, Karma came around & kicked her in the butt this past Christmas & I had absolutely nothing to do with it. 🙂

I recently had a man that lived in New York. His package made it all the way to New Jersey. Then it was shipped all the way to California where it sat for a week. It eventually made its way back to him. So I 1000% understand what you're saying about the sorting facilities lol. I've also had the same package scanned in & out, in & out, in & out... of the same facility within minutes. It makes me wonder what's going on in those facilities lol.

I'm happy you're feeling better about the troublesome ebayer & hopefully it's over for you by now.

Take care & have a blessed night,

H.

Thanks for your reply.

I had rehearsed a message last night to mail to my buyer around lunch time (he still doesn't have his coins). I was going to tell him I called USPS and relay the same information I was telling him for days now about mail delay and things getting stuck.

But at 10:30 two texts came through, one saying it left the sort facility, and another shortly there after saying it was in his town.

I sent a message to him that said "calling USPS was on my list of things to do today, but I see your package is not lost, it's moving again and should be delivered soon."

Late last night he sent me a message telling me he's pestering his letter carrier about the package and the letter carrier says if it's not scanned for a couple of days then the package is lost.

BTW, I had no intention of calling USPS... anything they can possibly tell me is already on their website and in this forum. (And I had to BBL... I get be anxious the first time you buy from me if things don't go as planned, but to do that every time you purchase... I have much better things to do with my time than read 50 messages from a buyer about where their package is and get all stressed over it. For at least some of that time I was supposed to be doing my paid job and making sure my company's customers were taken care of and that their medical and care bills were being paid.)

I'm sorry I haven't already responded. I've done the same w/ buyers. I tell them I called USPS when I don't because I've called them before & was on hold an hour. They read the exact details that were on tracking & told me that was all they knew. I did call my local P.O. to make sure they weren't holding packages. So far everyone's been nice about the mail. I've sent them updates about USPS whenever I'd see something on the news. About a week ago Senate approved 25 billion dollars for USPS, so hopefully things will get back to normal & items that are stuck at facilities will start moving. I STILL have some that have been stuck "in transit" since July 29th. They were shipped on July 25th.  I get nervous everytime I see I have a message from a buyer. Another thing I've done is to let them know I've contacted ebay & let them know ebay told me it's a carrier issue & it's out of ebay's control. I did a write-up about USPS & put it on everyone of my listings. People don't seem to be reading it. But ANYONE is more than welcome to copy & paste.  My best, longest repeat customer is now one of the ones whose packages are sitting "somewhere". She's very nice, but probably won't buy from me again. During Christmas I lost a repeat customer for the same thing...even though I mailed her more books & gave a refund. USPS can really screw up a sellers clientele.
