INR...but it’s at the local post office

I received notification tonight that a buyer opened a request because they hadn’t received their item.

I noticed that delivery was attempted 5 days ago, but said “Receptacle Full/Item Oversized”. They live in an apt, so I figured they would go pick it up.

The buyer was nice in his message, but stated that he left the slip and the post office still hasn’t delivered.

I kindly let him know to attempt to contact his local post office by phone or in person to get this situated, as there is nothing I can do on my end at the moment. I even re-uploaded tracking and quoted a blurb from Usps.com

What I’m confused about is WHY open a case against me when it’s sitting at the local post office? I’m not going to refund his money only for him to go pick it up!

Should I call eBay about this tomorrow? I haven’t heard back from him, but am baffled about the opening of a case versus sending me a regular message 🤦🏻‍♀️

I meant to add to the above post... if the buyer picks it up and then opens a SNAD case come back here and let us know.

Oh, I surely hope they wouldn't do that, but at this point, nothing would surprise me!

Or they try Paypal or the credit card.

Congrats on winning stage 1.

I would check the tracking regularly to see if it does get picked up or sign up for auto updates for the tracking number.

Prepare for the worst and hope for the best. I know it's 'only a $10 vase' that's not 'worth' scamming but for a lot of eBay buyers it's about the challenge,  and you can already see just how eager eBay is to back you up.

Keep an eye out for a paypal INR or a credit card chargeback.

And #6 - Always use the best '3 out of 5' or '4 out of 7' answers from ebay CS.

Now you have to be careful because if you call and the rep thinks you want to escalate the case, you could leave yourself wide open to a unresolved dispute.

Ebay is becoming more and more famous for these type of situations as buters are gods and sellers are peons.

It might be worthwhile posting your situation on chat and get one of the mods involved.

Thanks for the tag @papermoneyforme! To be clear: if there is a scan of attempted delivery to the buyer's address the onus for the redelivery/pickup is on the buyer, and a case should not be held against a seller.

Glad to hear you were able to get this resolved @call_me_caro, sorry to hear that it was a bit of a struggle when it should have been pretty simple!

Thanks!

What happens if the buyer never picks up the package and it is returned to me?

If it’s sent back to you, refund the buyer minus shipping.

Everyone has options. Just be sure the best option is right for you.

Frankly Tyler it's very frustrating and depressing how often things that should be "pretty simple" for a seller is a nightmare.

Okay, well the time for the buyer to pick up the vase/have it redelivered has come and gone. The tracking information now shows "Package Return Notice Generated".

I guess what I'm wondering is when I receive the vase back, how do I go about refunding the buyer the cost of the vase minus shipping? I know eBay can give you a defect for partial refunds. Do I just need to send the buyer a message first and then refund $10 through Paypal?

I want to make sure all my bases are covered and that I don't run into any problems while handling this.

Any insight would be appreciated! Thanks!

Yes I've had this problem.  Just call them and explain and upload the tracking # to the case.  You will win.
