I stopped selling because they now require a linked bank account and I don't want my bank information all over the internet. Now I'm about to stop buying here because every time I log on, there is a prompt to get the app but I don't want the app. It just seems to me the site is getting worse and worse.

OK bye and best of luck to greener pastures

PayPal has always been able to reach into your bank account and seize funds when your paypal account doesn't have enough to cover a refund. Most people forget that.
I solved that problem and the identical one eBay presents....I actually have two bank accounts for my on-line business. Account A is the account both PayPal and eBay send money to. Account B is the account I then transfer funds to from account A. Even though both are in the same bank no one but me (and the IRS) can take money from the second account (account B)

I've been with ebay's Managed Payments system going on 2 years and I LOVE it.
I have a totally separate checking account where all my sales money goes after fees, etc, so I know my true profit then I subtract my cost of goods.
Makes my bookkeeping so much easier.
Good bye and hope you find another selling platform that satisfies your expectations!

Good luck to you, whatever you decide. Most other sites you can sell on (minus your front lawn) are going to have similar, if not the same, requirements.
Hope you can find something that works within your comfort zone. Be safe.

The IRS can seize and take from any bank account they want
what makes your bank strategy so strategic it can outwit the Feder Government?

Why do you think your bank information would be "all over the internet"?

When PP had your banking information, and SS#, was it 'all over the internet".

EBay has ways to make you do what eBay wants.
When you Comply & get the app you avoid getting the prompt

I ignore that same advertisement everytime I log in as well, either as a seller or buyer. You would think after hitting NO for several months every day they would get the hint, but you can't fault Ebay for being persistent in marketing something new that could bring in more revenue.
As for the bank account, I ask if any employer you currently have or had in the past had your bank account information as well. As of right now that information is only shared with the government for tax purposes so it is no different than having any employer asking the same. When they start sharing that info is when I draw my line in the sand too.

Not trying to outwit anyone. I just don't want my bank info hanging around on sites like eBay where it can be hacked.

I see you are a relatively new member, joined in Feb 2020. You entered the fray at an unusual time, with the pandemic wreaking all kinds of havoc around the world.
You don’t sound completely sure of your leaving, so i wanted to encourage you to stay, and give Managed Payments a chance.
Open a separate free banking account, just for your eBaying. I did this, as thousands of other sellers have. Ebay doesn't have any more info than PayPal had when it was the money processor. The risk of hacking is no greater than it was with PP. Also consider PP wasn't a bank with government protections, whereas your bank funds are insured by the FDIC.
Change can be hard, i don’t like having to do it, but i think you would be pleasantly surprised at the ease of switching services from PP to Adyen. So before you leave, consider the benefits of staying. Take a break from selling, if needed. Good luck, whatever you decide.
