Re: I think I am being scammed....help

I haven't done anything yet.

@uniquebeachboutique

That is good.  What you have there is the typical "text me" scammer.  The closest you will get to any money is a FAKE notice that you have been paid.  These people work the site 24/7/365 and usually prefer newbie seller IDs in hopes that you will fall for the scam.   When one ID gets canned by eBay, they just sign up for another one.  Same with their "cousins" the "change of address scammers".

If you "accepted" an offer, you can use the "report this buyer" feature.

So glad you came here to check first.  Many are not so lucky!!!!

Re: I think I am being scammed....help

I'm going to assume you accepted a best offer on the Oreos then you texted the scammer outside of eBay even though you shouldn't have. What happened after that? You didn't send gift card codes, did you? Ship without being paid?

If your being told to buy gift cards, run, yes it's a scam.

Re: I think I am being scammed....help

Obviously you recognised it as a scam, so that is good. Have no more contact with this person.

Never give out personal email or mobile number or deal off eBay - All sales and payments are handled through eBay and NO reputable seller will ever require Gift Cards to be included in the shipment.

If this is an eBay seller (not on some other site) report them:  https://www.ebay.com/help/buying/resolving-issues-sellers/report-issue-seller?id=4022&st=12&pos=1&qu...

Next time you need assitance put the explanations in the post box uner the title of the thread, so we can help you more quickly

Re: I think I am being scammed....help

You are being SCAMMED.

All contact should always be through eBay messages. Do NOT, under any circumstances, give your phone number or email address to a buyer. Do not send a Paypal invoice, either. Your email address can be found on the invoice.

No legitimate buyer needs any of these things, and no legitimate buyer will give up their eBay buyer protection by paying off site. Your "buyer" wants your email or phone number so they can send you a very real looking, but very fake payment email. They are hoping you are too inexperienced to verify the payment. There will be NO PAYMENT, only a fake email saying you've been paid and you must ship immediately so the payment can be released. This is a lie. This person wants you to ship your item without being paid. They want to steal your stuff.  The gift card is just more icing on the scam cake.

Report the buyer https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/resolving-buyer-issues/reporting-issue-buyer?id=4084 Use the reason "asking to complete a sale off eBay". This only works if they have made a purchase. If they have not yet purchased, scroll to the bottom of that page and use the "contact us" button on the left to contact eBay support. When the chat box pops up, click 'See more' the "request an agent". This bypasses the chat bot and gets you a real person. You also have the option of requesting a call back.

Add the buyer to your blocked bidder list: https://www.ebay.com/bmgt/BuyerBlock Ignore any further messages from them.

If they actually purchased, cancel the sale immediately using "problem with buyer's address". You don't have to let the unpaid item process play out. The buyer is a scammer. Scammers don't care about getting unpaid strikes - they just move on to a clean account when one gets shut down.  You can cancel here: https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/getting-paid/cancelling-transaction?id=4136

The easier you are to offend the easier you are to control.

Re: I think I am being scammed....help

Forget it...they are out to scam you out of big bucks.  The USA Marines would have been my first clue, not to mention the poor english.  Do not accept. Block and report. In the future you may want to list all your items for sale at a buy it now fixed price.  That way you'll see a lot less of these scammers.  Accumulate some feeback before you decide to list auction style listings.  Good luck and glad you came here to double check.
