I sold a $400 item and a $1300 item the same day. I mixed up the shipping labels and sent the wrong items to both buyers.
I only found out when the buyer who purchased the $1300 item contacted me that he received the wrong item. He returned the item and I refunded him BUT the buyer who paid $400 and received the $1300 item is not responding to my messages 😞
I know its my fault but is there anything I can do to recover that item?
thanks

I would try getting a callback from eBay and see if they would be able to reach out to them. I am not sure you can force them to send it back. It is unethical for them to keep it of course, but not sure you can there is anything you can do. Obviously lesson learned... take your time with shipping. I have made similar mistakes but not of that amount of money.

Send the right item and enclose a return label to return the wrong item.

You have his phone number in the purchase details. If he is not answering his messages try phoning him instead. Be nice because diplomacy is the key here. He is under no obligation to return an item that was sent to him by mistake - even though he has not yet received the item that he paid for.

I'm guessing it has not been very long since you contacted the the $400 buyer?
Have you tried calling them? (phone number in the Order Details).
Once the package has been delivered there is no way to get it back unless the recipient cooperates.

Even a signature (surely required) at delivery won't even help in this instance, will it? I mean, the recipient signed for an expected shipment, and all. Correct as you see it?

Your user name and this scenario........kismet, I think!
Wow. This is an expensive pickle. It is a shame the $400 Buyer does not have the integrity as a human being to respond to you.
Unfortunately, you cannot make a Buyer interact with you.
Dear Buyer
I have reached out to you several times regarding your order. We shipped you a $1300 item vs the $400 that you ordered and would really appreciate you responding to us, as we cannot afford to be out that amount of money for our error. Hopefully, you can appreciate the stress we are under due to our egregious and costly mistake.
We are trusting you will understand the devastating financial impact this will have for us, especially if we are unable to receive the $1300 item back that was sent to you in error. We certainly will pay to have the item picked up from you and arrange for the correct item to be sent to you immediately as well, etc.
Please reach out to us as soon as possible. Please do the moral and honorable thing and work with us to correct this situation that we inadvertently created.
Thank you in advance. We look forward to hearing from you soon.
Sincerely,
Your Seller

Delivery is not in dispute here, the buyer of the $400 received the $1300 item.
I think I found the two items, they were not shipped any earlier than last Tuesday so it's possible the second buyer hasn't even opened the package yet or maybe not seen the messages from the OP (we don't know how long ago they were sent).

Never mind... the signature went with the box that the OP sent to the buyer who has sent back the cheaper one. My bad.
ETA: Sorry, Jimmy... cross-posted.

The $400 buyer received the item the next day (5/6 days ago) and signed for it.

I believe that there is a law on the books that you can keep anything that is sent to you if you didn't order it. Back in the day all kinds of companies would send stuff to people on approval and wanted to be paid for it or you were to send it back on your dime. Thus the law saying you can keep it.

Truly am sorry................I would send them my email and I would then wait 1 day and then call them. Worse case, they hang up on you and block your number.
I know this is of little consolation, but I do believe in Karma. And I believe she shows up full force like the Tazmanian Devil when she feels like it and you least expect it. Hard to see it now, but there are better days ahead. Keep us posted ~ all the best!

If it is the following two items that you sent to the wrong buyers I can see how this could happen given the similarity. This is an unfortunate situation but as others mentioned there is little you can do but try to contact the other buyer who received the $1,300 camera and work with them to see if they will return it. As slippinjimmy suggested it may be a good idea to call them if they have not opened the package they may not realize what they have and they could simply return the package to sender without even opening it. Since you have the correct $400 camera back you could offer them a significant discount on the $400 one if they would be willing to return the package.
At the moment you are only out the postage for the $400 camera but if you cannot get the other buyer to return the $1,300 one that raises the loss depending on what you had invested in the more expensive one.
If you do manage to get the other one back you could reach out to the original intended buyer who returned the $400 one and offer them a discount for their inconvenience and setup a BIN listing for them and coordinate the timing so they can make the purchase as soon as you post it.

You don't get it back because Buyer 2 feels they has won the lottery. I would send it back. I have done it once when a seller mixed up an order. You either know the difference between right and wrong or not. Not every one does.
