I quit - eBay lost my trust due to a case

Long story short - I know I should had immediately canceled and block the buyer but I didn't.

So I made a sale to the buyer. After the sales the buyer contacted me telling me to report the price 90% lower on the customs forms. I politely said I cant do that.

The seller then asked me to cancel both deals unless I agree to report lower amount on the customs information.

I contacted eBay and they told me not to worry. They take such behaviour seriously and told me I am fully protected on all claims including "seller pays free return".

They said they have all the information on file. They told me I have done everything I need to do. I am protected. So I proceed to send the parcel with correct customs data.

On delivery the buyer refused to accept the parcel. Buyer claimed the object is not as described even though they didnt accept the parcel from the postal service.

I contacted eBay two times. Both times they said that I am fully protected because of the blackmailing and because the buyer didnt inspect the objects. They said all I have to do is to accept return and wait. Do nothing else, just wait.

I did what they said. Buyer asked eBay to step in - eBay halted the case for 5 days and made a final decision - the buyer has been fully refunded. The money was taken from my account and now my selling account is restricted. All my stats are down 40 to 60%. eBay says the decision is final. I am not getting any proper answers from them.

I have decided to quit selling on eBay.

Question for you, @cajan-mika:. Why did you decide to list your items on the American eBay site instead of one of the European ones?  I would think a European eBay site would have policies and customer service more simpatico with a Finnish seller than the American site.

Agree.  I would go further and say buyer should not be able to contact eBay without first talking to the seller.  This is what eBay recommends.

But now that eBay is moving to artificial intelligence, sellers will have even less protection than they did before.

eBay could help sellers with a few dozen lines of computer code, but it does not, which is very mystifying to me.   regards

You should have just cancelled. But it's rejecting packages shipped internationally is the sole reason i don't ship out of the lower 48 states. I had Canadian buyers reject packages because they didn't want to pay customs.  @cajan-mika

Interesting.  Many of the non-US eBay sites opened up around 1999-2000, well before you opened your eBay account.  Even your best bet for an English language site using euros for currency and being subject to EU regulations (eBay Eire) opened the same year you opened your eBay account.

I'm just sorry this happened to you. I've read enough on this board that to know that the customer service representatives are often unreliable.  I'm sorry you had to learn that the hard way. I'm glad you took the time to write your story and teach others.  Good luck selling in the future even if you choose not to do it on eBay.

Re: I quit - eBay lost my trust due to a case

I am still fighting this case but I am getting ignored by eBay.

US eBay customer services says that the buyer opened two cases on one purchase. One to Hong Kong customer service and one to France customer service.

In my opinion buyer has broken 3 rules from the eBay Buyer Protection Program. eBay customer service said to me the buyer has no protection as the blackmailing they have on file.

1. Blackmailed me to wrongly declare the items value for customs

2. Opened a case for one purchase on two separate programs: One claim to Hong Kong eBay customer service and the second to France eBay customer service

3. Falsely claimed the item is not as described. The buyer never received the parcel as they denied to accept it.

I lost the case even though US customer service told me I am fully protected and I only need to wait until they step in. Once they stepped in I lost the case and now I am getting ignored by customer support.

What can I do?
