I need help

I made the mistake as a first time seller , I was in desperate need of money so listed my Gaming setup on here , got this guy in my inbox interested about it , my world was absolute chaos so I didn’t do my due diligence , I ended up shipping the item to him before payment and now i’m being extorted out of more money and theyre trying to harass me into giving up my identity. Does anyone know what to do because if I don’t manage to get it back soon I will be left on the street as I already am sleeping in my car because of this. Desperately in need of help on what to do.

Was the transaction actually on eBay?  Cause it doesn't appear so.

My  SWAG says that an item is not considered SOLD until it is paid for,  Until that  happens it  simply a booking  that may or may not be paid for.  That is what I was  used to over my "real" career.

The OP said  this  happened on Sept 3  that means  don't look so good for the OP - meaning no money - no item. - too late to retrieve it from the mailing system While law enforcement report should be  a thing to do but today I think this  stuff is not a  very "high priority"

Tough lesson to  learn.

That system is lost. You will never get it back.  Ignore this buyer.  Block them. If they did send some messages through Ebay , ask ebay to read them. Perhaps they can see that he/she is a scammer and at least, ebay can suspend them.  Do NOT list anything until you know what you are doing.

DO NOT COMMUNICATE WITH THESE BUYERS. DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY ID OR PASSWORD or they just might get more information from  your ebay profile page to really do you some harm.

Anytime you sell an item, it should say sold on your SELLER PAGE.  IF they paid, it will say paid.  If you ever get an email that says PAYPAL PAYMENT, you can bet your mother's life that it is a scam.  All seller payments come from ebay Managed payments. You never know if the buyer paid via Paypal, Apple Pay or credit card or whatever.

Sorry for your dilemma.  Perhaps you can seek some government assistance until you can get on your feet again.

When you sell on ebay, you MUST be patient.  As a new seller, ebay can hold payment up to 3 weeks or more.  So this is not the place to sell if you need to buy a sandwich in a few days.   You need to make sure that you have given ebay your social security number and have set up a bank account to receive your money.   If you do give the social security to ebay make sure that YOU WERE the one that initiated this.  Goodluck.

Sounds like another Good reason to keep all sales transactions and communications on eBay.

If you list it on eBay, keep it on eBay.

So it started off over eBay, but you got impatient and moved off eBay to text?  And you shipped without receiving payment.  There is nothing that anyone here can do for you at this point.  You have been scammed and since the transaction did not actually finalize on eBay like it should have, there is nothing that eBay or any of us can do to help you.

Clearly you are confused about the difference between on eBay and off eBay. First you say it was on eBay and then you admit because it was taking so long you resorted to texting. That absolutely makes it an off-eBay transaction and that is why no one at eBay can or will help you. Texting is what killed this deal for you. Please know this in mind for the future. All communications must be on the platform.

P.S. The only way they can extort you for more money is with your permission. This takes two willing parties. It may be time to talk to the authorities.

They already scammed you once. They are just trying to scam you again. That's what scammers do, try to keep hitting up someone they already scammed. If they wanted to pay they could. They don't need any information from you to pay you. They certainly don't need your credit card info or your SSN. I'm sorry this happened to you, but they are not going to pay you anything at this point.
