I need an advice on selling expensive item

Hello to eBay!

So glad to be here and I have been a member since 2014 and was usually buying from Classified Ads. Do not have a lot of feedback...
I also was a seller of a few items back in the times but understand that as quite a lot time has passed since my last sale, I might be as a new seller.

I would like to list an expensive item as I have a high selling limit, but did a research and found out that the payment can get on hold.
I am not okay with sending the item while the payment will be on hold - before getting paid.
So my question is setting 30 days handling time will be okay to not send the item right away but to wait these days until the release?

It says the release can be cleared within 21-30 days. So I guess setting the handling 30 days will suit this circumstance, right?

Simple question:

Can you afford to lose item and the money paid for it and shipping??

If not do not list it.

Well I have not received the answer.
no I can not afford to loose it but why would I not list it anyways? I asked a question regarding 30 days handling. Thx

My payments have been processed and cleared in 1 to 2 days.  If the buyer gets the item and wants to return it, then the funds get put on "hold" and if you need to issue a refund the money is taken from the bank account or credit card you have on file.  I should point out I have a store, so this actually may be different that if you only sell a few items a year.

Well if over a certain amount you will need signature confirmation: all items must have delivery confirmation.

https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/member-behavior-policies/signature-confirmationpolicy?id=5154

And some stay safe:

Holds on payments:

As for your shipping times you by going with what you say; is just going to cause you problems.

Ship when you get payed and or when eBay says you can.

To restate what has been said more succinctly,  eBay will not release the funds until the item is delivered, and for new sellers there is typically a hold on funds for 2-3 weeks, even after delivery.

The sooner you ship, the sooner you get your $$.

When someone here states "can you afford to lose the item?" it's because a buyer can open a 'Not As Described' return, forcing a return for refund- you pay the return shipping fee,  then they send you a box of rocks and there is no amount of proof you can supply (no pics, no video) and you are forced to refund 100%; if you don't do it, ebay will do if for you, you will lose the Final Value Fee (approx 13%) and get a 'ding' for not taking care of your customer.

High theft items are usually high end fashion, high end jewelry, computers and parts, video game systems, games and parts.

You are a new seller and thus must either enjoy financial pain or are just plain foolish by listing those expensive items.  New sellers listing expensive items attract scammers like flies to the proverbial dung heap.

And no, you will not be able to skirt the holds on your funds by creating a 30 day handling time.  Once a buyer pays you must ship within a reasonable amount of time regardless of how long Ebay holds your funds, which would be close to 30 days after shipping for a new seller who just sold an expensive item.

Judging by your lack of understanding as to how the system works, perhaps selling on Ebay is not for you.

30 days handling time is not a smart thing

when an expensive item is sold on ebay and paid for,  then ebay wants it shipped

if you are not OK with sending an item before you are paid then ebay is not the place for you

asking a customer service person is not as good as coming here

all the experts are right here on the boards and they dont want you steered wrong

increasing handling time is not going to make this a better way to sell

Low feedback seller, high value item... you will be a scam magnet, no ifs, ands, or buts.

I have 20+ years experience here, and fairly high feedback, and I wouldn't list anything worth over $100 here. Sell locally thru another venue, cash on pickup. Best of luck to you.

Oh my god. This is exactly what a friend of mine had. He sold his Rolex . The buyer paid but eBay got funds on hold. EBay told him to ship it but the buyer issued the refund not as described while it was in shipping process. He lost the watch and 1900$ fee. And got a “ding”

**bleep**..

12 years ago I sold a 2 cameras and lenses for $9500 with no issues.  Today I would only sell it for cash and pickup only. eBay's policies make it to easy for scammers these days.

I didn't make the new seller rule but i do believe I know the purpose of the rule. It's  to prove the seller is trustworthy, ships quickly, gets signature delivery for over $750, describes properly and packages so there's  no damaged claims before they get paid.

30 days handling is for presale items the seller must ship by 30 days.

A buyer is going to see the delivery time will be between 31-39 days and pass on your item.  They know an item you have in hand should not be sat on for a month before you get it in the mail!

Your biggest problem will be the scammers that use eBay to steal expensive items, like the seller that sold a Rolex for $28,300 and the buyer returned an empty box and  the seller was forced to refund in full. That's the thing you need to be afraid of.

There's no reason to game the system by withholding shipping to get around new seller rules. If eBay says you've been paid-awaiting shipment then the payment has been approved and is in the payment flow and can't be cancelled by the buyer.

If you're going to sell here, you've got some nice items that attract scammers, especially because you have them listed auction style. I would really recommend changing your items to a buy it now fixed price with immediate payment required checked off.  No best offers either.  Those attract sport buyers who don't pay.  Like the others have posted here, you appear to look like a new seller because you have very low feedback and new sellers are targets.  People here are trying to help you and it appears you are not liking the replies you're getting.  I can only say good luck and hopefully this won't be your situation.  PS Ebay watches new sellers (or sellers who haven't sold in a while) who list or sell high end items.  Be careful.
