Hello, I was just reviewing some sales and I noticed an "international fee" of 6.25 cents on an item, I haven't even figured out what item it was yet but I do have a suspicion. Before I was even willing to use the "Ebay Global Shipping Program" I had read in these forums that there could be other charges on the seller with the GSP, so I did take the time to read about it before I offered to accept those sales and from what I read - the amount I was charged to ship, when making a label, was my only obligation. And that the buyer would know the duty/tariff/tax or ?? at the time of checkout and was responsible for those additional costs.
If it's the item I believe it is, I apparently gave it away now and may have the last few times.
I will have to look at this one item that almost all of them have sold to either Canada or Europe, maybe that's why they're buying it, they know something I don't.
There was no explanation of the charge, I'm sure it's in my sellers hub somewhere. I found the charge by accident in my "selling charges" and when I clicked on (i) it referred me to "help". When I looked at help it said I could be charged additional charges IF someone purchased my item from an Ebay "other than your site of registration" that I could get an additional charge. I didn't notice that to be the case but how could I tell if someone bought my item from an Ebay.co/uk as an example anyway??
Now that I know this happened this month, it may have been happening the 6 or 7 other times I sold this thru the GSP, that means I gave away my new item. These people were super happy that I was willing to ship to them, they said they can't get that item there and if they could it was 3X the cost, maybe now I know why they were so grateful. How do I protect myself in the future but still try to help these people?? Thanks for any help and Happy Labor day...
PS - My tags were a joke, but I was told I can't use the word "wo-n-t or do-n-t"? Are those bad words? That's yet another thing I've learned today SMH

Based on all the posts I've seen in the forums we probably should keep up with every single fee. Matter of fact, most people get accused of "not reading Ebays XXXXX" when they have a question on here. People will say "Well, it's right in the fees, don't you read??", darned if we do, darned if we do not.
And no, it still doesn't make sense because I made sure to read up on GSP before I allowed it. I didn't screenshot it but the quick answer I got, and I probably Googled it (and yes that may be to my fault) was that my only responsibility when using the GSP was the cost to get it to Erlanger KY or wherever their hub is. Why would I think to double check that in the Ebay fee schedule? It also makes no sense that items going to Canada go south before they go to Canada...
** And here is how I just Googled it now:
Showing results for Do sellers pay any other costs when using Ebay's Global shipping program?
Search instead for ADo sellers pay any other costs when using Ebays Global shipping program?

Thank you for that, I found it. Although, it's not easy to see there either, you have to go into the "details" of each fee to see the fee breakdown and then it shows "international fee". But thanks for helping me find it...
I suppose they probably don't want it standing out in bold red letters so a seller could see it immediately, it seems many people find this much later on down the road.

Just in the case that you didn't know yourself, I could not find it under "order details". Another person in this thread sent me to "all transactions", then I had to check all 45 transactions but that doesn't show you either. You have to select "fee" to view the fee breakdown and that's where it finally states "international fee".

Ms. Monroe no sabe matematicas BUT
$6.25 divided by 0.0165 = $378 and some change.
Assuming you are a seller in the USA, that International Fee would have been on a sale with the Final Value of around $378.00. That means a sale on which your buyer paid around $378.00.
Does that help?
(I recently learned -- unless I misunderstood, which is possible -- that when eBay sellers in Canada are charged an International Fee, it is only around 0.4%. Four-tenths of one percent. Almost free, compared to 1.65% that American sellers face.)
I'm guessing that the fee was on the 1985 1986 HONDA ATC 350X NEW TIMING CHAIN GUIDE SET 14511-HA5-000 14620-HA5-000 that you sold on July 18.
If you go on vacation to Canada or Europe, do you pay for everything in that country's currency? Or do you use your credit card. Are you aware that those merchants pay a foreign transaction fee on your purchase made with a USD based c.c.? You also (usually) get charged a fee by your c.c. company.
Personally, 1.65% is a small price to pay for a successful sale and it's a heckuva lot better than having the item sit in inventory waiting for a buyer who will pay in USD but may not buy until 6 months later.

@dirtcrasher welcome... every sale I get I enter all details, all fees (FVF, Trans Fee, PLS fee, etc...) into Excel, to do that requires going into the Sales Details on Orders Page, Then the tab I mentioned for PLS fee, and then the item that sold...i do everything myself because ebay's reports are a mess and a mile in length.
And it only gets worse since that conclusion...

Again. This may have nothing do to with GSP. You do get the Intl fee when a GSP tx happens. BUT you ALSO get the Intl fee when a buyer registered in another country, with a US address purchases something. So, GSP is not involved in that case & that one is more of a surprise b/c you aren't expecting it, since you didn't even realize it was a non-US buyer.
That's the most common way the surprise Intl fee shows up. Since you're shipping to a US addy, you never realize it's not a US buyer.

I didn't notice your reply until now. I wouldn't go to vacation at either of those places because they are now ruined in comparison to the beauty they once were, but I'm pretty sure I can't talk about those issues here so we'll just let that go. This entire thread helped me understand what happened and why, and hopefully it helps someone else.
85% or more of the items I sell are geared towards one very specific hobby. And I usually know what will sell at what price and how long it should take, or I sell it privately for 20% less. I'm not a credit card person and I don't have to sit on the inventory I have, it actually benefits me to keep my products because they are unavailable, in demand and they increase in price every year.
My income from here allows me to buy some things I'd like to have, that's it's sole purpose. Unfortunately after much research it seems that many people are hurt by these additional fees because they are unexpected, and those people work with small margins and often make a very small profit; It hurts them.
I certainly appreciate everyone's thoughts, I merely needed to know where this fee came from and where it could in the future. It's not the amount of the fee, it was that it is yet another fee that to some sellers that extra amount added to the other fees can be very harmful and upsetting. To this day I still can win a .99 or 9.99$ auction, that may be worth 5 to 10X or more than that amount, and although a seller may not have set a reserve I'm aware that it must be very upsetting for them to have barely recover their labor when we live in a time that most people are struggling to live...

You have been selling a long time according to your account. Did you not ever notice you paid the same fee in PayPal? The international fee has been around for years. PayPal Charged it and now that Ebay is our money processor, they charge it.
International fee
If your registered address is in the US, we charge an International fee if either:
- The delivery address for the item (entered by the buyer during checkout) is outside the US, or
- The buyer's registered address is outside the US (regardless of the delivery address for the item)
This fee is calculated as 1.65% of the total amount of the sale and is automatically deducted from your sales.
If your registered address is not in the US, please refer to the fee page for your country or region of residence for your International fee information.
